Some of these shots were taken at my old Dojo. I started Aikido just a few months after this was taken. It's important to note that Sensei Ota taught Aikido, Judo and Ballroom Dancing. It was called the Cultural School. I was was a young man and this experience was very important in my life. Sadly Sensei It's and his son Steve have both passed away and to my knowledge the dojo is no more. However it still exists in my heart.

Watching this old film footage is great. The martial arts has changed alot over the years. Back then it was about honour and respect. It was a study through the education of the martial arts. The fighting arts are always there - that is obvious. However, to focus on the accomplishments and the learning process should be the goal. Perfection is realizing that there is no perfection. If you focus on perfecting your skills and self growth , its hard to think about the fighting aspect. Utilizing the martial arts to help people to grow or teaching values to people is by far a greater asset. Thanks for this video it brings us back.

I was fortunate to practise with him in 1967. He was an outstanding teacher, and I feel as if I have never done my techniques as well as under his supervision!

As an yoshinkan practitioner, i do feel Koichi Tohei sensei aikido one that really interest me. One day i would like to try one of his school to expand my understanding on Aikido. I believe if one wants to go back to the way Morihei aikido, one should not stick to one style. Aikido is like reading a book on the same topic but by different authors

Mr Teacher Ueshiba Morihei's aikido kept on evolving each decade. Yoshinkan is Ueshiba's aikido from 1930s. Ki aikido is the aikido that Ueshiba had during last decade of his life. The only thing that is missing from ki aikido is internal power which never got fully transmitted. Internal power is different from ki power derived from ki exercise.

Qigong masters know that ki or chi power is amplified hundreds of times by having a smile on your face, true fact. Both Osensei and Tohei smile when doing aikido, more so Tohei.
