1959 Sprite Musketeer Classic Caravan Rescue (Part Two)

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Final part of this not as easy as thought rescue - enjoy the intro of 1950's Sprite and some of the PR material from this period and then see how the rescue went! My thanks to the team for letting me get in their way and videoing the event. Wet murky day but enjoyable - hope you enjoy and dont forget the books that match up to the videos - The Ci Story and The Sprite Story #caravanhistorybooks #andyjenkinson

Thanks for having me sitting on the end of my seat for half an hour getting this van out. Reminds me of a time I had my very own police escort home rescuing an old cotswold

Three days late but I just saw your video on the caravan. I'm in Crescent Beach, British Columbia, Canada and my hobby for years was restoring vintage caravans and converting buses and vans into campers. I saw a Sprite caravan for sale here a few months ago at a reasonable price but a 80 years old all I could do is wish it was possible. I've had to rescue some that were parked 40 years before in a forest so I recognized the struggle. Looking forward to the restoration. Thank you for the video.

Hi Eddy - great to hear from you from Canada - and that you to restored vintage trailers - yes Sprite built in US for a few years in early 70's and exported from UK in late 60's. Sounds like you to have had some great adventures getting a trailer out of a overgrown tomb ! Thank you for the contact please feel free to share the video.

AH a modern one - we had the model before this with the rounded side windows - we spent many happy holidays in it - back then my parents towed it with a vauxhall victor we had a plastic pipe running between the caravan and the car through the windows it had a whistle in one end so if we blew down the hose the whistle sounded and we could shout down the hose and tell our parents if there was a problem in the caravan - Motoring was different then !!! Luckily we all survived !

Hi Andy, that was a very enjoyable video and great to see just how much work goes into getting these Classic Caravans out of a tight space. There will be a lot of old paint to remove before getting it back down to a repair and paint condition. Isn't it fairly dry for a van that age, even the upholstery hasn't any mould on it. Going to be a lot of work around getting those windows repaired and restored too. Great job and well done for sticking to the task on a rather wet day.

Hi Kevin - thank you What I was hoping to show was how it should be done while others may damage it further and also not transporting it properly as these guys did. Yes some work buy could be done quite easily with care - thanks Kevin

We had a 2013 musketeer, so it’s great to see this saved. My wife and I grew up with Lynton, Thompson, and Vikings. Now own a Bailey. Love your books by the way Andy 😀

Loved your Sprite book, which we have a copy of. My wife would love to see anything on the Lynton Arrow you may be able to share. We have a few period photos of the Lynton and the Fibreline you would be very welcome to use in a future book if you wish? Keep up the very good work! Regards Alex

Funny you mentioned them being built in NZ, i always wondered if there was a connection with the Sprite name. I was building Zephyr caravans in NZ in the 70s so i tended to notice other caravans. She definitely needs some tlc, good luck with it.

Yet another brilliant video Andrew! When I was growing up one of our neighbour's had the exact same model!! You just need to do a feature on Richard's Discovery now ( an early 93 model if I'm not mistaken) Land Rover's being my other great passion after caravan's.

I had one of these built in the1960's, it was in better condition than this one but after not using it for a few years it was infested with mice. Sadly we set fire to it in 2023, but at least it got rid of the mice.
