As a kid in the early 60's, we had a '59 Bonneville convertible, black with white top, 389 4bbl. It had metallic fibers woven in the carpet, very stylish car. That Bonnie and the '63 Olds 98 sport coupe we had are tied for 1st place on the list of 'my favorite cars of all time'. Thanks for another great video, Lou! 😁

My all time Favorite Year Pontiac. Never seen one in Red! NICE! We had the Star Chief (one down from Bonneville) 4 dr Flat top in Silver. I remember the Silver Threads in the carpet and all the chrome on the dash (no glare haha) I just fell in love at 9 years old when dad pulled up with this car. All 7 of us piled in for a quick ride me parents in the front and 4 sisters in the back. We all fit just fine. We’d have 10 of us in the car on Beach day with 1 neighborhood friend. So 5 in the back. Without any problems and all our gear in the trunk. When dad sold the car to buy a new Country Sedan 10 passenger I cried and hugged the back of the car for about 20 minutes. I guess they didn’t believe I needed to seek mental help back then haha. I just Love them!

Once again Lou in his virtual automotive history museum videos gives us a taste of the 1950's in its brash and enormous proportions. I cannot begin to convey my appreciation for what you do Lou in covering so many different vehicles from so many different eras. You are preserving these vehicles in your video and you manage to bring them to life as well. Keep up the great work and this is a true amazing car in its bold red size!

But what style and elegance does this 1959 Pontiac Catalina have, with that intense red! I love his lines; like that grille divided into two sections with its double headlights, along with the doubling Pontiac logo and those spear-style chrome ornaments on the corners of the front. And, of course, the striking rear part, with that large folded glass ending the bubble-style roof, and those strange fins that are subdivided into two smaller ones to end in those large chrome exhaust pipes (which, by the way, vibrated in a way singular when accelerating, hehe). The interior combination in coffee and cream is magnificent, with those elegant seats and their prints, along with its beautiful instrument panel loaded with chrome details. As always, the surprises in the trunk are very interesting! With that Coca-Cola cooler, and the beautiful manuals and catalogs containing that unique art of the time. Congratulations to Mr. Kasiurak, for this beautiful red machine from the late fifties! Best regards, Lou!

The late 50's was such a great time in Detroit as everyone tried to out-do everyone else. Styling was over the top, and I love those offbeat options like a removable radio, tinted plexiglass roofs, record players under the dash, vacuum ashtrays etc. Lou, you should put together a video (in your spare time!!🤪) of all the whacky options and accessories you've seen over the past 10 years of doing this. That would be fun to watch. Great video Lou!

I love the 1959 Pontiacs, especially the Bonneville, it's huge! But this Catalina is really awesome in all original form. 1959 was the first year that John DeLorean was involved in the design process, and this Catalina was the first generation of Pontiac that would inspire his 1964 GTO, with the mighty 389-V8, three deuces Tripower, and dual exhaust. In 1960, the first Super Duty version of this Catalina would make its debut with a factory 3-speed floor-mounted stick shift, and all the other outstanding features this beautiful 1959 Catalina has! I had a 1960 Pontiac Catalina 2-door hardtop Super Duty in 1980!

Just such a great exterior design! No question the space race was on. There’s a lot to be said for the 389 under the hood, and that Wide Track stance means business, doesn’t it! Probably the best reasonably priced full size car Detroit had to offer in ‘59.

That asymmetrical design on the front and the rear seats was known as the quotation off the shoulder look quotation. One of my relatives had a 59 Bonneville and my parents had the 60. These were great road cars with that wide track ride. Thank you for sharing and best wishes from Texas.

As was popular back then and into the 60's, people would cover their seats with that star-pattern clear plastic. Seat upholstery lasted forever. I would guess that this car had that. Removeable radios were around for awhile. It wasn't for anti-theft but they had built-in speakers and batteries so you could take your music with you.

Bubbletop is a term that only came around in the '90s, to describe the roofline of the '62 Bel Air hardtop, which used the '61 roof, differentiating it from the 62 Impala, which had the new, more formal roofline, pioneered by the '58 Thunderbird. In the fifties and sixties, a bubble top was a Plexiglass dome over the passenger compartment, emulating the fighter jet canopies of the day, by custom car builders, such as Ed Roth, Dean Jeffries, and Bill Cushenberry. We just called the hardtops by their year and name, and we knew Chevrolet made two hardtop rooflines in '62, one for the Bel Air ( last year of the Bel Air hardtop), one for Impala. Cars with a B pillar were sedans , no B pillar, hardtops. There was no such thing as a "post car", back in the day. All this confusion dates back to the late eighties, when people too young to remember what hardtops were, became editors of major automotive magazines, and started making up new terms for things they didn't understand, because they weren't enthusiast's early enough. They don't teach this stuff in Journalism class. And now I'm triggered everytime someone says "post car" or "bubbletop", especially when they use it on a car not related to the cars that started the confusion to begin with. ✌️😎👍 PS, thanks for all you do covering AMC cars, we appreciate it.
Hi Lou I've been watching your channel for several years now and I usually always like the cars you bring this one has a couple flaws that I do not like maybe bring to the attention of the owner since he's a new owner? Number one is he needs to get rid of them awful tail pipes. Those tail pipes look wrong for that car number one number two is Black Walls he needs to get some white walls on that car I think it would look a lot better and that's my opinion? Of course other than that it's a beautiful car but those mufflers really got to go and they don't sound very good I must say you take care Lou God bless you.
