1959 Custom Renault/Beetle: The VW floor pan is on its custom wheels!😎
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
Time to do some more work on the Renault/VW Beetle project here at Rat Rods for Africa. Lots of exciting progress on the Renobug! 👍We get the VW Beetle gearbox/transaxle in place and rebuild the rear brakes. The front suspension gets fitted and new brake lines are done. The custom widened rims are painted and fitted with new tires. Finally, we bolt on the custom wheels and turn the VW Beetle floor pan into a roller! You don't want to miss it!😎

Hey Diff, is old guys have done enough of this type of work to know that pretty much every thing with a thread on it needs to be cleaned up ( chased with a tap or die ) before assembly. I only use my fingers to snug everything up before final tightening. I only use hand tools when disassembling as well. Much better than broken off stuff or trying to find replacement parts! Your VW chassis reminds me of my mis spent youth where I learned about my beetle because I broke everything 😢. But did we have fun!! 😊 Thanks from Wisconsin
@ratrodsafrica

Right on brother! I use new bolts and nuts wherever I can and always chase welded in threads as well. And yes, the hand tools just let's you feel what's going on. Unlike the battery/ pneumatic toys 😅
No build can go wrong with deep dish steelies and dog dishes. One of the most classic great looks. Doing the same on my current build.

I love that she used that oil base Gloss, Enamel to paint your frame and your other parts. I would’ve probably sprayed that on the wheels myself. You Just thin it down and it sprays really good.

@DustyMacsGarage so many of the channels just chase the finished cars and gloss over the details, paint over rust,don't show the long journey. Chasing the sensation, instant gratification, all that. Guess it's what people want today. But I enjoy the journey and won't shortcut for the sake of views and fake glory 😅

@@ratrodsafrica you can say that again 😂 the tv shows do exactly that, they make car building look like a short game but in reality its not, its the long game. Small details, the small details in the projects actually take as much time or more time as the big details do..

I'm used to working alone and figuring out how to deal with heavy or awkward parts .... i can call a neighbour ( live by a hutterite colony and lots of guys there would drive over if needed ) but i find it fun to think of ways to do it alone...i do have floor jacks and a engine hoist in shop and a crane outside but sometimes a quick solution is just as easy ..and some of my parts are stored in other buildings and sheds that i can't use my regular go to helpers...i have a son now strong enough to help...but i only call him outside if it is my best option... i am used to working on my own so long i just deal with it..i have alot of dollys now too..they came on sale in 2 packs ( 1 medium size and one small )... and trailers to haul stuff from point A to B too... small and large....getting too old to carry the heavy stuff...and my back needs a reset ( strained it last winter )... 🇨🇦🤓🤟

Hey Div, it's also a 'handbrake' here in Australia. For the easier wheel fitment, make a guide stud out of a 50 mm long bolt the same thread as the wheel lug bolts/drum threads. Simply cut the hex head off the 50mm long bolt, put a chamfer on the cut end and a screwdriver slot, screw it into one of the brake drum/wheel fixing holes then offer up a wheel, slip it over the guide stud and line up the other holes and screw in four of the wheel lug bolts. Remove the guide stud once the other four bolts are started then replace it with the last lug bolt. Cheers mate.

I absolutely dig your hubcap-popper-offer! I made a remover years ago for VW hubcaps that was just some steel welding rods with hooks bent on one end and a wooden handle on the other. You popped the hooks into the holes and gave the handle a yank. Worked great and fit under the back seat or in with the spare!
