1958, GOLD AND GOLD MINING, BAILEY FILMS, TRINITY COUNTY, NORTHERN CALIFORNIA MINING.
This film depicts gold mining in the Klamath and Trinity Rivers in Northern California and hydraulic and dredge mining mining prior to the legislation that would eventually end all real mining in the state. The use of mercury in the process of gold collection as well as hydraulic mining and dredging are explained here in detail. Along with the great hydraulic mining footage is the very good footage of the Fairview Placers Dredge Co. dredge at work.

The narration is so refreshing. Speaking calmly, like an adult, as opposed to a character who needs attention like so many today.
M Benoist was my grandfather. (10:40 through 14:50). I spent much time as a child on the mining claim with my grand father.

The truth is, it is people like you that I do this for. I really love sharing these films with everybody but I am especially pleased when I hear that someone knew one of the people in the films. Interesting. I didn't know, that mercury was so to say primary method to catch gold. That explains gold covered with mercury, that is still found in Californian rivers and creeks. For me it is just a hobby...
