Such an American cool car, Scott has done it right, it's better than new, in my humble opinion. Fantastic analogy about the similarities with the streamliner trains of the 30's, 40's and 50's. I can see that. If the opportunity presents its self it would be worth a second look to see it finished, always liked this Studebaker, it is wild looking body style.

I had a dream a few years ago that i have remembered for some reason. In the dream i was in the front passanger seat and my dad was driving. In the dream we were back in the 60's and we were driving through the high school parking lot. I saw a 1950 bullet nose studebaker, and I said to my dad. "Look Dad, a 1950 bullet nose studebaker, that's the coolest car ever made, we gotta get one. My dad had at the time a 1955 studebaker champion..

She's a beauty! I never liked the nose sticking out that far but I did like the bullet nose over all. What visibility and that motor looks like it belongs there and not just some after thought. I also liked studebaker trucks cause you could get right to the back of the dash by simply raising thee hood. When the trucks were popular they had that horrible 6 volt wiring and it always needed attention. That and the little flathead six motor was just too small for the work intended... should of been a v8 motor for power... good video and great old car

Great looking 50' stud champion my friend! I had a 50' champion also, but mine was stock except I did put a switch on the steering column on the shiftier ( mine was equipped with overdrive. ( the switch was there to let me shift to overdrive and out on demand making mine a 6 speed forward and 2 speed reverse. It came in very handy when towing a trailer, because as you might have guessed it was only a 6 cylinder) the other thing it had was called a "hill holder brake! ... (came in very handy except if you tried to slowly back down an incline with the clutch engaged ..(brake keeps the car from doing that when in gear) ..... I painted mine dark brown metallic with a cream color top ..... and in the winter in Northern Michigan I would replace the bullet with an other headlight! ( the dimmer switch for the head lights froze to the floor in the winter. the extra head light acted as my high beam on a separate dash switch. I got it as my 16th birthday present from my dad..... he said he got the 1950 version because he wanted me to see how driving was done the year I was born! .....HIND SIGHT ALWAYS COMES TO LATE IN LIFE!...... i SOLD IT AT AGE 20!

Happy to read you think this car is "Very nice" :-)
I had a black 51 wrap around coupe for many years. Bought it from the original owner in Beatrice Nebraska and ended up taking it to Alabama where I ultimately and stupidly sold it. It was totally stock, 3 speed overdrive flathead six and the most important thing, TOTALLY RUST FREE. And all the pieces were there. I personally like the chrome pieces, grill, tailights, etc on the 51 but that 50 is very nice. The engine, and yes I am a Ford man, is not important for the value of the car. What is important is that the body, interior like dash and chrome are all intact. You can do anything with the driveline. When I was young, people were putting Cadillac motors in the Studebakers. The Cad motor actually weighed less than the Stude V8 and had a lot more power. We called them Studillacs. The 53 and 54 Starlight coupes were the usual choice. Whenever anyone talks about these model Studebakers, they always fail to mention something else unique besides that back window. The armrests in the back. Open them up like a lid, yes a lid on top, and down inside there is as much room as the average motorcycle saddle bag. Not quite as wide, but much deeper. I used to carry large mounted on paperboard advertisements from magazines in the 50s showing ads for the 51 Studebaker in those armests. One set of mounted magazine ads I bought in Oatman, AZ on old US 66. Always made something nice to display with the car. Hang onto that Studebaker you lucky dog, and if you want to sell, and hopefully you catch me in a stage of not being broke, contact me at ridesanddrives@gmail.com

While you love the sound of the exhaust note, I on the other hand, love the sound of the real metal hood. Not a big fan of the wheels as I prefer the old fashion hubcaps as it goes with the continuity of the original design. This was the first car to feature the jet age styling that was used throughout the 50's. I was at a orphan car show this summer and saw one of these cars. It had a lot of little design features. Iconic car of the 50's

In their unadorned state these cars weren't all that wonderful. When my parents met, mom had a '50 bullet-nose Champion (with a front bumper). This was the honeymoon transport, round-trip Fresno-Tijuana. Arriving home, dad was ready for a divorce--from the car. An inherent engineering flaw affecting alignment. On the rack--fine. Off the rack with only a driver, it was a battle to keep it from going in left hand circles. Then they got pregnant--and here's where it gets dicey. In mom's svelte pre-child state the alignment sort of self-corrected when both were in the front seat. Then she picked up 60-lbs during gestation. Dad swears that with every 10 lbs it now became an ever-increasing tussle to keep the car from going in right hand circles. By the time I was born dad had sacked the "Studey" and picked up a used Buick Sedanette--and he and mom drove nothing but Buick's until their dying days.

The 1950 Studebaker Champion is in my opinion one of the most beautiful car bodies ever produced. What a shame that Studebaker went out of business. Studebaker was in business starting with making wheels for horse drawn wagons and buggies then started making horse drawn buggies and wagons way before the Big Three” Ford,GM and Chrysler “ were even thought of. What doesn’t make sense was Studebaker made massive amounts of Military Fuel Trucks during WW2 for Russia and why their part in the War didn’t matter in the end as our Federal Government didn’t help in preventing Studebaker from going out of business by subsidizing them until Studebaker got its feet back on the ground and became profitable again. I wouldn’t doubt that it was the Big Three that played a major role in the Studebakers demise.

Hi H.P. Oliver, KZread is based on people typing / searching key words. Many more people will type / search "Black Studebaker" vs "1950 Studebaker Bullet Nose" so the "web crawlers" will direct them to this video, thus more views, thus more people watching the commercials, thus, I get more $. Lou
