Very nicely restored. I drove commercially in the '80s ,caught the last years of the GM 4106 and humps...then drove MCI 8-9. Interesting about sleeping in the racks...I used to do 24 hour spring break trips to Florida (2 drivers) out of Canada. Coming home they would be sleeping on the floor, up in racks, across aisle. It was almost impossible to get back to washroom. We would change drivers on the fly. In late 80s I moved over to the maintenance side, got my mechanics lic, but still did a few trips. I like to see restorations that are still a seated coach. I always thought if I ever did a conversion I would leave a few rows of seats in the front.

I rode a duplicate of this bus in the early "60s. This was the ride for the Rebels Quartet as they took their Gospel music up and down the east coast. It still graces the Rebels Facebook page. It was their mobile home, hotel, and practice studio. My father and I took the train south and caught up with them in Newport News, VA, then rode the bus back to South Jersey where they were singing at my dad's church the next morning. I slept underneath one of the guy's beds. During the night, it broke down, but they fixed it and we got to the church on time. Quite a historical bus and I hope to see it one day.

My 92 year-old dad was overjoyed by seeing this video because it brought back vivid memories of his early days in the U.S. Navy when in 1951 he and my mom traveled from San Francisco, to Long Beach, CA in a Greyhound PD-3751, then continued on to Philadelphia, PA, when over the course of a couple of days, they would transfer to a couple of connecting PD-3751s until arriving at their destination. Dad vividly recalled the downshifting the driver would have to do with the manual column shifter when going over mountain passes, and specifically stopping, in of all places, Jerome, AZ to drop off and pick up mail. Greyhound and Trailways bus lines contracted with the U.S. postal service to transport bulk mail back then. Thanks for the memories, and for your passion in keeping a rolling piece of American history alive. 3751s are astoundingly and magnificently beautiful pieces of automotive architecture, styling and design.

These buses are really beautiful, well built , solid and i wish the modern buses would be built like this.I love the originality, want to see more of this,getting tired of those motor homes or camper buses whatever you call them>We used to have them in Ghana but you wont find any.There is a guy who has a shop and i spotted two of these in there , that was around 2005 and hope he still has them and they have not been scrapped.

A funny aside- We were traveling from Upstate New York, back home to Central Ohio in our TURQUOISE 77 Dodge Landau 34. Went through Pennsylvania, we were gonna stop at Kennywood for the day. Did Kennywood, but upon leaving (and driving through town, up hill and down) the ignition wires decided to start arcing. So I looked for an Auto Parts store at which to stop and buy a new set of wires... On the scary, backfire- laden trip through town, near every traffic signal we'd come to, I tried NOT to come to a complete stop, for fear of the coach completely puking out and thus blocking traffic. I noticed that as I'd drive by each intersection, we'd be cursed, yelled at, and have things thrown at us! Why would people be SO DAMN HOSTILE? Then I realized that the Pittsburgh City buses happen to be painted damn near the same color as our motorhome... Wow. People must really pay CLOSE attention to what they ride everyday. If I was smarter, I could have made about $100 on that 3 mile ride through town!!!!

They do drive it. They actually take it on bus route runs in the summer and they show it around the area at special events. I’m thankful they saved it from becoming a camper bus too. Thanks for watching

there is a detailed model kit of this bus. it is pretty elaborate too. but I see the windsheild is not tilted foreward on the real bus but only the opening. the window subframe is sunken into a nook. I like the aircraft windows as it is a structuaral stength in the bus.

Great resto on this time capsule. I also like the GM Flexible's but after this video I may have a new favorite. How many viewers knew that 671 is a two stroke diesel, like my old dirt bike..(long ago).Love that sound going through the gears.

I drove for Greyhound from 1980 through 1987 and feel that the MCI's were the best overall buses ever made. MC 5 was the first model, followed by the MC6 , MC7 , MC8 and MC 9 . They were all very strong , durable, and comfortable. The MC6 however , was a white elephant that didn't make the cut. It was too big and cumbersome with an air actuated throttle that was a little bizarre to drive. Among this group ,the MC8 was the overall best with the 4 speed automatic that was a pleasure to drive. The MC5 was a 38 passenger single rear axle 4 speed stick that I considered to be the "sportscar" of intercity buses. Very fun to drive. That thing once went over I80 Donner Pass eastbound at 50mph for me . I've also driven Volvo's, van Hools, and Continental Silver Eagle's, and some GM models and still consider the old Mci's to be the Cadillac of intercity buses. Just my qualified opinion of course.

What an interesting engine/transmission/axle design...a very cool beautifully restored vintage bus!

Per the Builder's Plaque on the dashboard, this is PD3751-122, which was originally delivered in June of 1947 as fleet number 680 to Northland Greyhound Lines, HQ'd in Minneapolis MN. So it's still "close to home!"

Yes there have been some updates to bring this bus up to modern safety standards. SWTransit actually uses this bus on special occasions on certain routes to carry passengers.. it’s a great PR tool for the transit company. Thanks for watching

Great legacy of transportation. I am owner of a little buses tourism company (6 buses) here in Chile. The old buses here in Chile does not exist anymore, they are all taken to the junkyard for destruction, it is a big sad. Saludos

Thanks for the video and the conversation of this beautiful Bus hey Bob Dylan is still alive i beleive all of us alive would remember a ride on a Greyhound Bus i imagine he could come up with enough details to confirm if the driver was telling the truth or not and really why would a old driver need to make that up Reality was Greyhound for many years was how many people travelled America years ago for myself i used it because it was the only thing available at the time for me to get to my destination

Bob Dylan did live in Minnesota. I'm sure before he was famous that he at some time did ride the bus. His Grandmother lived in southern Minnesota not far from where my farm was. He supposedly lived with her for some time down here. I'm sure he went to the Twin Cities to do gigs. He could have very well have been on that bus.

The 2 stroke Detroit Diesel has been making fuel into noise 1938. The 71 series engine was in production from 1938 until 1995 when it was replaced by the 4 stoke series 60 engine.

I went to a Bob Dylan in Minneapolis in 1965 where Bill Crosby also performed......and suspect he may have traveled by bus to other area locations for concerts as Dylan was not well know then.

Here is the bus grease monkeys website, he has the manuals for his 4751 plus his knowledge of bus parts is close to encyclopedic. He only works on the old Detroit 2 strokes. He's brought two prewar coaches back to life on of which as for 28 years. You might get in touch if you ever need parts or service. He was just in Hibbing where he brought back a 3751 that sat for 28 years, he has posted videos of most every bus he works on. The first one he worked on the engine mount was totally almost 99 percent gone and he had a new one fabricated the supports the engine on the radiator end. Hi Guys fantastic restoration of the Silverside bus and great video too. Could I ask what colour would the interior have been on the original PD-3751 Greyhound bus please. I am currently building a kit of the 1:35th scale PD-3751 for a magazine article and I'm stuck on the inside colours. Thank you.

@@TwoGuysandaRide Lincoln welders of the era used the continental 4 cyl as well. I just looked on the internet and found replacements for them .bracket mounting points could need modified though and the rebuild kits for them are out there too.I hope he did save the original unit.

Get a good skoolie with a solid maintenance record. 70 plus years old is a museum piece. Sa e THOUSANDS for a much more serviceable RELIABLE vehicle. "TWO WEEKS for a bearing? Nuff' said!

Yes, this bus does a few customer route each year and it goes to the Greyhound Museum in Hibbing MN and other local "oldies" car shows. Thanks for watching!

Good looking bus! What did they use to remove the anodization from the aluminum trim?

Three soruce's for parts and knowledge for this one is in Minnesota the bus boyz have a large variety of vintage buses they have parts and knowledge and they are a nonprofit luke at us coach If he does not have a part these old coaches will know if the part is available somewhere and scott at bus grease monkey on u tube travels the country fixing and saving them from the scrap yard and he does it in a 1947 silver side one thing he could help you with what you would need to do to convert to spring brakes Have a good day THE GRUMPY BUS

Bus Boys are in Bloomington, MN. They have a few Silversides as well.
