a 51 farmall H was the tractor dad put me on when i was 10 and taught me how to farm with. on our 250 acre grain farm . it was my favorite tractor until i bought a junk pile M i restored. both are great tractors they were over engineered which made them durable and reliable. with minor upgrades we got 31hp out of our H and with major upgrades we got 62.5hp out of the M i restored it had an M&W live pto hand clutch kit installed on it

+brokenwrench1 My grandpa had a Super M that he put what were called "turbo-dome pistons" in which raised the compression so much that he had to convert to 12 volt to start it.

+EragonSuperM in 1969 i bought a 44 M for $150 because it had new 14.9 tires on it. our H needed new tires so i bought it just for them. it had been bought with a low compression engine for distillate fuel. the original owner used it on a mounted 2 row picker. he got it stuck in mud and broke a tooth out of the left bull gear and tore up the left pinion shaft. the engine was worn out and burned 2 quarts of oil every 4 hours and has nearly no oil pressure when warm with 30w oil.., i decided to rebuilt this M i found it cheaper to buy a MD with no motor and swap the rear end assembly and it had a M&W hand clutch on it. i rebuilt the engine and found it had flat head pistons with a 450 lp hi altitude head with huge valves. when i finished i put a 450 carb and governor on it and it dynoed at 62hp at full load rpm. . i could pull a 10ft disc carrying the wheels with a harrow on behind in 4th gear with no problem, i could pull a 4-14 plow in normal ground in 2nd gear or a 3-16 in 3rd gear.. it would out work my friend's 560 gas with hi speed gears on less fuel pulling the same load.

FarmallMan01, I welded a piece of flat bar onto the front edge of the box for the front bolts and drilled some new holes in the box flange for the rear bolts. Also added some metal where the box extends beyond the trans cover to keep stuff from falling out.
I just cut a piece of sheet metal to fit and welded it in with a MIG welder. Then ground the weld smooth.

Looks good! Doing pretty much the same job with a 1950 mcCormick standard version. The axle shafts are splined with a bolt holding them in. Snapped the bolt off, maxed out our 30 ton press, applied heat and still couldnt get them apart. Next step is paying a machine shop with a bigger press. Any ideas? Am I missing something? Thanks in advance.

Beautiful job! Is there a sweeter color than Famall red? I spent thousands of hours on my dad's 1941 H back in the 60's/70's. It originally had steel wheels when built but had been converted to rubber when he bought it. It was still running four years ago when he passed away. I don't think it's been started since. :-(

The originals were 6.00x16 and we found some 15" rims that would work. Had to turn the centers down in the lathe to get them to fit. Welded some tabs on for mounting.
