This is a charcoal gas Engine for agricultural and industrial use which was made by UCHIDA Iron Works in Hiroshima prefecture. In Japan, charcoal gas was used to alternative fuel of gasoline in areas with a lot of forest resources. It was manufactured by gas generator from firewood or charcoal. In Hiroshima Prefecture, there were some charcoal gas generator makers until around 1950, and UCHIDA Iron Works was one of those. Now, this engine is modified the fuel-system to kerosene. I enjoyed a feeling of vitality from this amazing engine!

This Engine is not my thing. I observed this engine at 2015 KAMOGATA engine show.
戦前に広島県で造られた、木炭ガスが燃料の発動機です。木炭ガスは薪や木炭をガス発生炉で不完全燃焼させて得られ、ガソリンの代用燃料として使われました。広島県では昭和20年代前半頃まで、木炭ガス用の発動機がいくつかのメーカーで造られていました。尚、現在は灯油又は軽油での駆動とされているようです。堂々とした風格が素晴らしい、生命感が感じられる発動機でした。
