Not worth alot? My guy, people charge out the ass for even sporterized examples. You should tell me where you buy your mausers since anything around where I am with the name mauser or k98k automatically means over $600. I got super lucky with my late-war mauser at $300 and haven't found anything close to that since then. Also, those holes are really easy to fix with some threaded plugs locktited in and tig welded over. If you wanted, you could stain the stock to match that handguard.

@@iloveshootingshit Still not bad considering it is a true german made mauser that is mostly correct. Even if it's not matching, its still an awesome K98k, although the barrel bulge is unfortunate. I had to resolder both front and rear sights on my kriegsmodell. Really the only affordable mausers these days are beaten up turks or the 7mm Chilean mausers. The Yugo M48s are great alternatives for about $200-$300 more, I might pick one of those up and end my mauser collection at 3 rifles.

That is called light primer strikes not hang fires. Just means either the Main spring is full of Cosmoline or it is getting weak. Wolf makes heavier duty springs which will solve that. I did that with my 95 year old Finnish Capture M91 and what a difference that made.

@@michaelbenjmitchell1 no, old surplus ammo sometimes just needs a second strike, if it does that on new ammo then the spring is bad. I wouldn’t use one of those wolf springs unless it’s to exclusively shoot surplus ammo, on new stuff it can pierce primers

This is quite a useful video for me, I was gifted a Code 27 1939 Kar98k form a relative, fortunately it’s in much better shape than yours, as it’s still in original condition except the stock is cut down, the rear sight is painted a bit, and there is a wrong screw in the trigger guard. Where did you get your stock? Early stocks are either expensive, reproductions (which I don’t mind, but I’m not sure how well the parts I have will work in it), or just wrong lol. Where did you get your stock? And how did you take the takedown bolt and recoil bolt out in case I do get a reproduction?

If you wana let the holes diappear just weld the reciever. heat it up to 150 degrees centigrade, choose the wire for MAG welding. Take welding wire for fine grain steel in the middle range and make two or three point welding spots with 180A, but do not quench afterwards in cold water, better warm motoroil at temperature of 40 degrees centigrade. This will work, for sure. After that file and polish slightly, Use cold blueing for the polished spots. After one year you won't see your small fix anylonger. The steel for the reciever is ST C 35.61. This is our German classification. If you cannot weld ask someone else, the best way is a professionel welder. Greetings from Germany..... The steel of the reciever made in WW2 can stand this procedure. I did the same more than 30 years ago several time.

Put a proper German bolt in that gun and you'll be one step close to the original appearance. You came a long way in turning a junker into a respectable shooter. That M-48 Yugo bolt sticks out like a sore thumb. The location, profile and shape of the undercut in the stock under the bolt handle looks a bit odd and out of shape, hand cut? May need a little adjustment to get the look right. I've restored several k98's and carried that trusty Mauser for years as a reenactor and as a live shooter. A most inspirational rifle! I still prize my small collection of Russian captured k98's. I used have an untouched pristine all matching vet bringback several years ago, a very pricy safe queen that, although rare, was not as fun to own since it was unfired (except for German test rounds). It was taken new out of the factory new by a local vet taken right out of Mauser Oberndorf factory racks in 1945. The RC rifles aren't worth huge money, but you can enjoy them a helluva lot more.

Way to go!!! 😎👍 I've got 2 kar98ks, one of which was a genuine Russian Capture (RC) mixmaster and another one, which from my research, is a "Balkan" capture. I like my RC kar98k more, since it has a mix of parts from the early, mid and late period of the war. My Balkan capture is weird, it's exposed metal is nearly in the white, but all the bluing under the wood is still intact. The receiver has had it waffenamts crudely removed, it looks like a drunk smashed them out with a punch and a sledgehammer, but oddly enough, the receiver, trigger guard, barrel and magazine floorplate all match. o_O I looked for a .308 or 7.62 NATO mauser barrel as well since eventually the barrels will wear out. v_v Either way I'm glad to see you caring for your rifle like the heirloom it is. ^_^

They probably shot it with snow or mud in the barrel, causing the bulge. It may not be your ammo causing problems. Might need a new firing pin or spring. That's a fairly common problem.

what you got is what i call 42-38 (factory code and year),i have 3 Oberndorf Mausers a 42-40 and an S/42-37 but the second one is a commercial rifle i also have a ottoman 1903 reworked by the turks for WW2. the stock looked repro from the start with how pristine it looks, however it looks good on your rifle. as for your list of things it needs you were half way there, ya need a sling but you're also missing a cleaning rod, let me save you some headache for ya, you need a 12 inch rod, there are a LOT of variations, 10.5, 12, 14.75 and thats just off the top of my head, the rear sight you ordered looked like a yugo or czech sight block, but they look almost identical to a turk sight block but czech/yugo blocks are solid on the bottom while the turk blocks have a cut out, if you take your turk and yugo M48 out of their stocks you should be able to see what i'm talking about. Mausers are a bottomless rabbithole of variations and information, like do you know the 4 families of muser? 71, 89, 93 and 98. if you're interested i can give you my FB link to continue this conversation :-)
