1938 Fageol Off Road Logger

The 1938 Fageol Off Road Logger was one of the last trucks to be manufactured with the Fageol name. In 1938, T.A. Peterman bought the factory and its contents. In 1939, the first Peterbilt was produced in the Fageol tradition of building the best possible product. This truck will be on display at the 75th Anniversary Peterbilt Truck Show on Saturday October 25th, 2014 at the Stockton Fairgrounds. you can find out more about this historic event at:

the first Petes were called the "Skate Creek Diesel Log Trucks" because they started hauling above National Washington up the Skate Creek drainage. My uncle was one of the first wrench twisters on them. Another uncle drove one right after WW II. Some tremendous loads were hauled by those early trucks.

And I happen to be one of those that knew of this when my age was still in the single digits, over 40 years ago - thanks to the books at my late parents got me as gifts, or that I checked out from the local library. I was very much a hardcore truck fanatic, even then. 😆

Can’t mistake the sound of a cummins with a compression release, sounds just like our old 230. Pull it, crank about 10 seconds then let the handle go and POP..she’s running.

@@flight2k5 If the government requires it then the government should pay for it's up keep and mataince. 60% of the truck that come to our shop are having issues with emissions. I know of independent owners who were put out of business because they couldn't afford to repair the emissions systems on they're trucks. These systems have nothing to do with the trucks performance and cause unessecry mataince cost that many companies struggle to keep in check.

When I was with Cummins,we ran into some of these H rngines still in use in the 80's. Without being right on top of it , it appears to have the double disc fuel pump. More than likely it is a 5 1/th small bore 180. The crankshaft dampener will tell you a lot about it. I have books that identify the engine if I had the s/n

Fageol was bought by RW Peterman in 1939. By the time the plant was moved to California the US Military orderd them to start war production. Consequently Peterbilt did not produce a truck till 1947 after the end of the war. The cabs are the same today.

@raginroadrunner - What do you mean "moved to California"? The plant was always in Oakland, California. It was a California company. Though the company was incorporated (and consolidated) in 1916, it began as a company in 1905. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fageol
