Some particularly auspicious alignment of the heavens must have hooked up June 9, 1932, because the vibe on this side is nothing short of ethereal. It's a slice of NOW dropped on your plate fresh from 80-plus years ago. If there is a house orchestra in the next world, let's hope this is what it sounds like.

I am particularly fond of Bing Crosby's rendition of "Cabin In the Cotton", but I find this version by Helen Rowland to be equally as enjoyable. Great music songs and sound reproduction. Thanks for sharing.

I wasn't planning on a "next world" ....but if there is a house band, I would prefer Abe Lyman.

I am humming to myself. These lyrics could not have been written on the planet Earth. Somebody else, maybe from outer space, but I didn't. It's all fake music, anyhow. And that's what I have to say.

Oh pff. A novelist named L.P. Hartley said "The past is a foreign country. They do things differently there." But not all _that_ differently. The people of 1932 were as human as we are, living on the same Earth, allbeit exponentially less populated, developed, and interconnected. Love unrequited was a pitifully lonely thing, then as now. The difference then was, every so often someone wrote a popular song about it. As one whose loves have mostly come out unrequited, I for one find this song all too human, all too worldly, and - fake though the sentiments may be - the music, and particularly this performance, is honest and dignifying.
