I was gifted a Paramount Style C a few weeks ago. With the help of the internet and the banjohangout forum members, I've got it rebuilt and playing. I've been playing guitar since I was 11 years old and I'm 57 now. This is exactly the banjo style I want to learn. I feel like I'm staring at a mountain I might be too old to climb when I watch this guy. Amazing playing!

@@mike2st808 The Mummers are fun, but Tyler is one of the best tenor players in the world. There isn't a Mummer strutting through Philly that can touch his technique.

@@FullertonRadioService very true! But there the two play different styles. Many different strumming techniques are used between Jackson and the mummers. Both are great, but Jackson is a 🐐🐐

When I was a kid, my friend's parents bought him a tenor banjo (not sure why!). He was tone deaf, so he always got me to tune it for him with a pitch pipe. But one of the strings kept breaking - I'd try and tune it up to the note on the pitch pipe *plunk, plunk, plunk, BANG!* I think we might have had the wrong pitch pipe. The guy at the music store assured us we had the right strings ... LOVE your playing, by the way!

Wonderful! You sound so great, and you are so young! You make it seem so easy! Keep on picking my friend! Love to you! :) I happen to own a 1920's Epiphone Recording A. It has been battered quite a bit. I had to rebuild the resonator, and it has a bear claw tailpiece which i don't think is original. A peculiar thing about it, is that it seems to be of an early enough date that Epiphone had not really finalized their design yet. My best guess is 1926. Great sounding banjo -i just wish i had a right hand that could play it! 5-string is so much easier for me! :)

Hi Nicole. This would be considered "Dixieland" or "Pizza Parlor" style banjo. This style was made popular on the Plectrum banjo by Eddie Peabody in the 1920s. The style experienced a revival in the 1950s-60s when the banjo was the primary instrument at Shakey's Pizza, Your Father's Mustache, The Red Garter etc. The name of the song is Bye Bye Blues.
