Tysy, a painter's tip: when you want to make a round dot of paint (like here on the eyes), use the back end of your paint brush (not the bristles) to dip in the paint then apply a nice round dot! Excellent restoration!!

There is no such thing as "too much" sandblasting. I could watch it all day.

I would’ve been pissed if he didn’t put a coin in the bank at all but hearing the clink of the coin fall inside put a smile on my face.

I’m glad he kept to the original design. As a person of color it’s important to know the history of how things used to be to make sure it doesn’t happen again

Don't change a thing. Sandblasting was not too long. It is incredibly relaxing and satisfying.

I have three banks. A Rainbow Dash, a fluffy unicorn one (I thought it was a stuffed animal when I first saw it), and an owl. I have them separated. 1) Quarters 2) pennies 3) dimes and nickels. I’m gonna be 19 this year and I might just get another one just for dimes.

YAY! The lighter makes a cameo! And I've learned something about American history from the top comment. I believe we should shine a light on the injustices of the past and help each other to do better. It's possible to restore lost objects respectfully without celebrating the nasty intentions the original makers may have had.

So strange to see a window into history like this. Things like this were just OKAY to have around the house in those times. So strange..

I had a piggy bank that was a piggy. I saved up pennies and and my 5 cent allowance until I had five dollars. I then shook the coins out and bought a brownie camera. My Dad paid the tax for me in 1956. I still have the camera. the piggy bank got broken when we moved.

I could tell from looking at the thumbnail this would be a tough one just from the facial features of the bank but aside from that great job

Thank you from a Black woman in the southern US for doing a wonderful job restoring history and for the free sandblasting/therapy session. I feel much better now.

Beautiful restoration. I kind of remember those banks. I think you would make many people happy if you showed ALL of the sandblasting. I did want to see the insides getting sandblasted.

When I was a kid, in the 1950s, all I saw were those large ceramic banks, in the shape of animals. This "Jolly Chef" bank is fantastic.

I love restoration videos but I feel like this item should've stayed rusty and in the trash

And I would argue this is a good, no, the correct way to make subtle commentary on America's past. It isn't annoying or trying to beat the viewer over the head with its message, but it's also very clearly (according to the majority of comments) drawing attention to an uncomfortable subject. Very well done sir.

When we restore a classic car with hand built coachwork for Pebble beach, you have to leave the weld marks under the fenders where the parts were gas welded and hammered flat. They mask them off when applying filler to the rest of the inside of the fenders so they show later. On a 1930's Alfa I did, we had to save the stenciled body number for the car by cutting it out of the rotted wood seat frame and inlaying it into the new wood. Pit marks and air holes in the aluminum castings of Duesenberg valvecovers are left in after polishing ....instead of welding them up and ruining them because the new material doesn't match the 1929 aluminum. It's only original once

And just when you think this historical colour scheme couldn't have been any worse ......on go the red lips. Excellent historical restoration that gives pause for thought.

As horrible a time in history this was from, thank you for restoring the original colors. It’s important for the younger generation to see it and ask about it. It will spark conversations about how much has changed in people’s perceptions about different races/cultures

I was amazed also, with all the SJW's running around It's hard to have some peace. This is a forum for restoration, not politics hopefully. It was only restored to original, not intentionally altered to denigrate any one. Intent is everything, no harm no foul IMO. It was a different era when this was made. Like it or not vintage Black Americana is highly collectable and brings high prices in some cases.

Well, it's definitely a piece made during a time of social stereotyping. I'd definitely not like to see one made today. However, it the context of a restoration (at the hands of a master craftsman), it is a truly interesting piece to see restored.

“Too much sandblasting” IMPOSSIBLE

Loved it. Glad you were able to save a piece of history. Was concerned when I first saw the casting marks as I thought they might be cracks. The Sand Blasting! I could watch that for hours. Thanks for a great video.

How much sandblasting to show depends on the project, if it's nearly only sandblasting, keep it all in...

Not a problem with lots of sandblasting footage. But too little is a different story. But if you cut the clip in the middle of a section, get ready for the comment section to lose its mind! Mine included.

Just so you know Tysy, in English we have to and too. When something is too much, we use too. When some is in addition, we also use too, too. If we are going somewhere, we are going to it.

Well at least only the inside of the mouth not the whole fat lips mouth which would have put it firmly into the 'blackface' category But yeah I think it might have been better - or more culturally sensitive, anyway - to reverse the black and white. Then, as someone else said, a fat white guy in a tux rather than a fat black waiter.

Thank you for showing so much sandblasting. 2 to 5 solid minutes of it is a pretty good amount to get to see in a video.

Thanks, man, you did a good job again. I love the restorations with Sandblaster. Sandblaster wipes away dust, mold, rust that has accumulated over the years and does not disturb the originality of the angle grinder

I know it worked on this occasion, but using an impact driver on cast iron is risky. It shatters easily when shocked.

In response to Mr wipple yes you are correct about grey cast iron such as this,it is extremely brittle by nature ,but once heat treated,it becomes very impact resistant

Who else was like "I wonder what the finished product will look liiii- 😥"

Sand blasting is awesome, it's one of those things that is pleasing to the mind. I watched the 18 minute sand blasting video 3 times :)

This is exactly the way it was made and painted 50-70 yrs ago. Nice piece of history restored. Great job.

What did you do with the coin bank since then? I'm sure there's plenty of museums and collectors that would love to have it.

I loved seeing how you shine. It usually goes by fast enough that I didn't know until today that's what that did. Thank you! Also, the sand blasting is so fun to watch, so I'm okay with that much blasting! That's half the reason I love your videos!

Oh and I loved the length of the sandblasting. It's my favorite part! Along w the painting
