1926 NASH ADVANCE 6 SEDAN - A RARE RELIC FROM NASH MOTORS

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

If you're only familiar with Nash as the progenitor of Rambler and thus American Motors, the first word to come to mind in connection with that nameplate is probably "practical" or perhaps "reliable" or even "stodgy." It likely is not "advanced," and yet, before the Great Depression, Nash was very much at the forefront of engineering and styling. The Advanced Six was an OHV six-cylinder introduced in 1925 as the top-of-the-line engine. There also were a Special Six, using a smaller version of the Advanced Six OHV engine, and a flathead six-cylinder powered Ajax that year. For 1925, the Advanced Six produced 60 horsepower from 249 cubic inch. By 1929, it displaced 278 cubic inch and made 78 horsepower. Here's what Nash had to say about the Advanced Six in 1929: "Twin Ignition, Air Craft type spark plugs, High compression, Bohnalite aluminum pistons (Invar struts), 7-bearing crankshaft (hollow crank pins), Torsional vibration damper." In translation, the Advanced Six was capable both of making power-thanks to compression and free-breathing overhead valves-and living through it-thanks to a crankshaft held securely in seven main bearings. Cheaper sixes made do with as few as three mains, which were adequate for mere transportation, but wouldn't last long if spun at high rpm or subjected to lots of compression. The Advanced Six didn't remain in production terribly long; it was replaced after 1929 by the Twin-Ignition Eight. For the 1926 model year, Nash offered 18 different models within three distinctly different series; these included the Series 260 Advanced Six, Series 230 Special Six and Series 220 Light Six car lines. All were powered by Nash's smooth-running straight-six engines in either 60 hp./278.4 cubic inch, 47 hp./207.4 cubic or 40 hp./169.6 cubic trim, respectively. But while Chrysler, Ford, General Motors, Studebaker, and even upscale Cadillac, Packard, Pierce-Arrow and Stutz, were building flathead-designed engines, upstart Nash was forging ahead with their advanced, innovative thinking and engineering. Through the years the Nash Motor Company created many innovative advancements. This museum piece Nash has a story all it's own. Thanks for viewing.

Yes, another ancient car that few would be interested in but I found this old Nash to be that very interesting footnote in American car history. This piece is museum quality and think about how few of these are even around today. I'm an old dog learning new tricks also for I found out things about this Nash I never knew before. Thanks so much Chris for enjoying this.

Most people, when they think of Nash, they think of bathtubs and Ramblers, but there was a time when they were a formidable contender in the world of high end automobiles. This one's a rare beauty for sure

Very well said ! The Nash had been a long running car make with a storied history of innovation way before the bathtubs and the Ramblers. This rare museum piece shows the quality of a twenties car very well. Thank you WY O for watching this and your comments.
