0:26 I love that loud thump it makes when it starts moving
The 1925 Otis Manual elevator even had a doorless cab. Heritage Elevators loves those kind. The old Famous Barr building in downtown St. Louis even had 2 freight elevators with doorless cabs.

it still there ?
I remember as a little kid going to a very high end department store downtown. There was a very old manual elevator there with an operator named Pearl. She was so elegant. You told her what you wanted and she took you to the floor. I remember telling her "I want to be an elevator operator too!" She said "oh no you don't, you just pull the level all day...".
EPIC Elevator y'all! The 1925 manual OTIS is definitely a treasure and a treat!

The older was was AWESOME!! The new was was pretty cool too tho. It was still original at least!
In old movies or radio shows, you'll sometimes hear or see jokes based on old elevators like this one that required someone to operate it. Often they were used in department stores and the operators had to recite all the different merchandise on each floor when they stopped and the door opened: "3rd floor - ladies' undergarments, perfume, sewing notions, women's shoes..."

The 1925 OTIS Manually Controlled Elevator is better than the other one in my opinion but I love the cabs in both elevators
I love both of these elevators equally!

@I STAN Kim Jong-Un but Can't STAND Trump At least they kept the ornate windows in the modded one.
It’s so cool seeing the original elevator next to the modded one

The better an elevator is maintained, the longer it'll last without needing a modernization.
Retro looks are AMAZING!!!!
I've been to St. Joseph. Had I known I'd have gone to take a look at that!
the way the modded lift runs is so cool!!! exactly how MCE should be programmed :) there's one lift at my university that was installed in 2010 (traction) and it runs EXACTLY the same way :) I ride it every day
Thanks. That was awesome taking a trip up n down that old gem. I recall going to dr barrs dentist off there (4th floor?). Walk in the office and see a green plush carpet with blood stains in waiting area. Boy those were the days. Became a man real quick! And wasnt there an Old gentlemen who ran that Elevator?
1:26 Holy that’s one spooky looking basement,
Very awesome!!! Nice the older one left completely original and did a great job doing the mod on the one on the right and still keeping the ornate vent windows that you can see out of. That is indeed a much tasteful mod.😀

The modernization does look good, in keeping with the original design of the cab and vent windows. Adding the automatic cab and landing doors and floor buttons, call stations. Wonder if they retained the original traction machine?
@mocub33
6 жыл бұрын
TheTheo58 yes, they retained the original traction motor.

@@mocub33 Very glad the original machine was preserved during the modernization, unlike the 104 year old Otis gear-less DC machines at Smith Tower that were replaced when their elevators were modernized. I think they could have kept them in service by replacing the MG set with a DC drive when the new controllers were installed.
Great vid!
Awesome lift video
Cool I like old vintage elevators
Very nice Elevators. I hope they will not modernize the original old one, but also the modernized one Looks nice, because the cab Looks like the one from the 20's. Great Video.
I agree with you Andrew even though they modernized the other elevator it's still pretty cool
It seems like the manual Otis elevator runs way better than the updated Otis elevator
Love the motor on the way down... 👌👌👌
I remember Marshall Field and Company has the elevators similar like this when I was like 5 years old back in the early 1970. Sadly, they no longer operates.

I don't like elevators at all, but i like to see them. I mean, I live in a 5th floor, here in Spain, in a building with a good elevator, and i always use the stairs, because im really scared about being closed into the elevator, but i really enjoy seeing all kind of elevators, im really interested on it. Nice channel! Congrats. (sorry for my english)
cool vid bro
Notice the old elevator has a little corner shelf for decoration where the operator stands.
Great old elevator
this is just my favorite video ever only because of this part 1:50

Beautiful
You can tell that guy likes the manual better than the newer :)! Hopefully that’s a good sign they aren’t going to do anything w/ it, esp. since they already have an auto right next to it.
This elevator is nearly 100 years old!!

Very surprised it didn't have one of those metal grates for the inside door.
Cool elevator
Hey, on your ElevaTours, I wish you'd get out of the elevators at the top and bottom and show us the hallways and areas just outside of the elevators...
i luv dis elevator
Reminds me a lot of the Robert E. Lee Hotel in Lexington, VA.

cool video
Liked the video
Epic motor!
Very equivalent to the Robert E. Lee building in Lexington, VA.
I would like to ride this one day
Guess that proves that things were made to last back then
I was looking for elevators since 1925
your apoening make people shocked

This Elevator without indoors!?😱
Very fast for its age
Reminds me of the Robert E Lee Building.
Otis invented self leveling in 1913 but I do not think they started becoming common until closer to 1915.
In this video he could've asked the guy with the keys to see the machine room but once again forgot
@EWPA14

Often times he does, but doesn’t include it in the initial video. I’m not saying that’s the case here, I’m just saying it often is. Another thing is he may not want to ask so he doesn’t overdue his welcome.
I had a dream about the first elevator you rode on in this video last night.
It doesn't look like it self levels to me at non-terminal landings (unless it is partial self leveling where it self levels if it is just a little off from level).
Those are nice
They both look similar to me.
Both of those are very unique, although I do prefer the original one. What brand modded the right elevator? It sounds like KONE but the chime behaves like a Northern TK.
On the modded elevator when it came to a stop it made the jolting noise like on an ecodisc but Im pretty sure that was just the innerlocks releasing

It also kind of did that a little bit when it was actually moving and maybe those few times it was just the motor starting up
this looks safe
How do you always get to ride people’s elevators? And are you ever turned down?
I liked the Otis elevators that had two pairs of doors, the outer doors, and the interior scissor gate as well, I thought those were very cool elevators
It looks like the left lift used to have a gate.
Was that someone calling you while the elevator was moving?
Hey Anderw, bring back the videos you upload to your channel that has your name please! You can upload, The Raw Files, Driving videos, And more random videos. BRING IT BACK! Thank you.
Where’s the gate was it removed?
That guy was friendly. Is that elevator original?
@EWPA14

The manual 1 is.
Elevator hobby
That is old school
Where do you get your elevator panels?
And I bet theyre gonna wait until it stops running all together and then the crank and stuff is either gonna go to the scrap yard or be put up on your display to be preserved
@DieselDucy
2 жыл бұрын
I guess it will keep running.
I prefer the second elevator beacuse it has a inner door.
The old one is nice but I would feel safer in the modded one.

Question, did this elevator ever have a inner gate at one time but was removed or it never had a gate ?
@mocub33

Rob Fassi this elevator never had an interior gate.
Is this building that old like the elevators?
2:39 Modern elevator
Without Inner Door!?
Elevator is not game!
The 20's is when they made stuff to last a long time
The motor sounds like Luxiar.

The original one is more reliablre because it never got modernized.
@TheTheo58

Those elevators were built to last, much simpler manual operation, no floor relays/selectors the AC 2 speed motor with a reserving hand controller or possible replay, door interlocks.

Why did it speed up when it reached the first floor going up?

The operator did that, he said “two speeds” earlier.
