There is something wrong with the Oscars. Thomas Newman, who did an amazing work for the score in 1917, was robbed this year. They gave best original score to Joker. Compared to the night window scene or the end scene in 1917 Joker score is boring.

I prefer the score from Joker, I think it fits the depressing mood of the film, and even helped in the development of character somehow, and Hildur was favorite for winning it, I understand that you prefer the 1917's score, but there's no point to say that the Oscars are wrong because of that, of course that were some outrageous decisions the academy made over the years, but that's not one of them.

Not the best of all time. It simply has to be one from the silent era or during the conversion to colour, that’s where innovation was at its peak. Jack Cardiff would be my pick.

I'm sorry, while Parasite was great and was an award worthy film, I still think 1917 should have won Best Director and Best Picture. Just my opinion. 1917 just blew me away, such a great film. I'm glad I saw it in the cinemas before Covid came along.

@Diego Pisfil it used the continous shot in a way it never has before and by always showing forward movement advanced the story. It was one of the most difficult movies to ever be shot. And even if all that doesn't count it still is bloody brilliant and the best of the year. Quality should still be the #1 reason for it to win and impact the second

On an technical level, _1917_ deserved this award. On an aesthetic level, however, _The Lighthouse_ should have won. I have to be perfectly honest, I would have given it to _The Lighthouse_ for its sheer atmospheric prowess, but it's hard not to give credit to any cinematographer who can make the one-shot work (especially if it's Roger Deakins - his work on _The Man Who Wasn't There_ and _Blade Runner 2049_ still blows me away to this day).

I remember sitting in the theatre watching 1917, and it was when the "Night Window" scene came on that I felt absolutely like I was witnessing cinematic history. The film score combined with the camera work, the lighting, everything. Those flares lighting up the sky and casting moving shadows as they drift slowly down and burn out. Just stunning and unforgettable. And that's not even mentioning the rest of the film, which was a marvel. But that moment, specifically, felt significant.
