There's also the fact that in the NieR Automata raids, you ultimately defeat the "big bad" of the NieR/Drakengard universe when the actual residents of that universe were unable to do so. And the NieR raids have been stated to be _canon_ as well. Which means if 2B & 9S return in another NieR game, there's a very real possibility that they could make some sort of reference to fighting alongside us in the three Raids.

"the victor shall write the tale, and the vanquished become its villain" that line always struck me as the most epic line of the whole expansion, considering both causes were just in their own way. emet is probably THE best video game villain of all time for me bar none, his charisma, his power, his wisdom, everything about him is just sick

  • @gamester512

And when he loses, he actually accepts his defeat and faces his end with dignity. Even giving us a genuine smile to show that he's truly acknowledged that we bested him and doesn't hold a grudge against us for fighting for who and what we believe in. He's treating his defeat as a sort of "passing the torch" moment, and all he asks in return is simply that we remember him and the Ancients who came before and ultimately gave our characters & worlds life in the first place. Villains who face and accept their defeat/death with dignity and respect aren't all that common, so it's refreshing to have a villain like Emet who does just that. It probably helped him to become even more popular and beloved than he already was. Imagine if in the end we found a way to not only stop the Final Days, but to bring back the Ancients without destroying/rejoining the remaining shards in the process. ....If we got to see Emet, Elidibus, Hythlodaeus, Venat, and the like again, without the looming threat of the Final Days hanging over our heads anymore. And then Emet approaches us, and he either says: *"You remembered us. Thank you....Azem." Or you smile at him and remark that you never forgot about him or his/our people.

The final sequence of events in ShB is definitely a mastercraft lesson in emotional progression. From the pride of the accomplishment at Mt. Gulg, to the wonder of seeing Amaurot for the first time, to the hype of joining with Ardbert and the final moment of joy as the credits start to roll. It's a rollercoaster, but it's executed to perfection.

I don't know if you noticed this little detail, but when Emet-Selch said to you "Let us dispense with titles and pretense", he really meant it. When you finally enter the trial, he is introduced simply as Hades... the devs purposely left him without a title underneath his name, the only boss in the game given that distinction.

The poetic part is that Emet wanted you to win. He stabbed himself to turn into a "primal" being through the prayers of his "brethren" - thus "triggering" the possibility of you countering him with the blessing of light (which works against primal beings). And then, the white auracite was strongest at the place he stabbed himself at, thus allowing you to throw the Axe of Light directly at him, at the weakness he exposed upon himself. It's beautiful.

I remember playing through when I was new, and at the end of the crystal tower stuff I WAS BIG MAD because I really liked graha LOL. When SHB started I was like... hmm, weird shortish guy with hidden face but some distinctly miqo looking lower face with a cloak covering all identifying features that just happens to be in control of the crystal tower? Also why is the crystal tower in the 1st now??? I was like maybe its just a relfected verison but then you start learning more about it being from the Source, etc. And I was CONVINCED it was Graha and my friends gaslit me into believing it was just a descendant of his so when that hood blew off and I saw it was him I was SCREAMING and crying lol. Definitely one of those reveals that was insane, and to think that if you didnt play the crystal tower stuff or watch the cutscenes you would have no idea who he is which is why they made that raid mandatory for progressing your MSQ past ARR. I cant wait to see your reaction to the rest of SHB patch stuff, some equally awesome stuff in there. :)

As an Empath, this was one of the hardest fights for me emotionally and mentally. I understood Emet-Selch (Hades) - his convictions and reasons. I truly genuinely felt for him. Even back then. I wanted another path, another way of possibly reconciling this. Why? Because in this one particular fight in FFXIV, we (Emet-Selch and the player character/Warrior of Light) are BOTH evil. We are both fighting to try and save our respective worlds, our people, our friends, and our loved ones. One, is simply fighting to try and save the past and the original world and the people that we came from before we were sundered. The other, is simply fighting to try and save the present and the new worlds and peoples/creatures that became after we were sundered. *** CAUTION: Endwalker Spoiler Below *** *** ** * What made this entire battle truly heart-wrenching in hindsight, is that Emet-Selch (Hades) and Us/The Warrior of Light/Azem are/were best friends. And Emet-Selch (Hades) NEVER intended to ever actually hurt us or kill us. Being charged with being the overseer of the Aetherial Sea, Emet-Selch (Hades) could have easily plucked out our soul from “the underworld” and given us our body back (as he did with Y’shtola). Why? Emet-Selch (Hades) can discern the color of souls and knew exactly who we were from the get-go, a sundered fragmented soul of the original Azem, his best fiend. So this made this fight, and killing Emet-Selch, even more painful - we just didn’t know it yet. The true Deep-down nitty gritty here, is that regardless of the outcome of this battle, All the people of this world would still technically exist and would have all their memories in-tact, albeit, with the attentional memories of their past selves included once they were made whole again. Their new lives wouldn’t end at all, they’d just be combined with all the different fragments of their souls and remade whole again. The ACTUAL issue (and there are two of them) are: 1) The Ancients/Amourateens/Ascians were flawed god-like beings. Yes, they were immortal. And yes, they had the ability to create anything at all from nothingness. However, their mentset regarding their constructs and creations led to a superiority complex and absolute apathy towards them. They saw their creations as “children,” “playthings,” and/or “tools” to be used and discarded when no longer necessary. This was backed up by them not placing value in death - thinking it to be a joyous occasion to return ones aether back to the star so that it can be utilized again - not truly placing value in “them” but their “make-up.” They didn’t understand suffering, loss, tragedy, pain, or sorrow, until the Final Days afflicted them. And it was a completely necessary thing. The only one who DID understand it, was Hermes/Amon, the Chief Overseer of Elpis who was charged with watching over, evaluating, and taking care of the Ancients/Amourateens/Ascians animal and humanoid creations. He came to understand fear, pain, sorrow, and loss from interacting with these creations. Which is why he decided to make the ultimate determination on Human-kinds potential to continue existing in this universe based on the very problems and suffering human-kind and ensued. The prevision being, should mankind be worthy to contiue existing, surely they will find away forward. 2) Emet-Selch (Hades) didn’t know it yet, but “forward” was truly the ONLY correct path. If he had won, and had successfully rejoined the 14 shards back into the original Etheiry’s, then the Ancients/Amourateens/Ascians would be right back in the exact same situation they were in previously with the Final Days, before the sundering. Zodiark being merely only a bandaid to temporarily forestall the extinction from Meteion and the Entelechy. Furthermore, the original plan was to use Zodiark to destroy/kill ALL of the new non-human/non-ancient/non-amourateen/non-ascian life forms on the newly reformed planet of Etheiry’s in order to revive and bring back all the Ancient/Amourateen/Ascian lifes that were sacrificed to bring Zodiark into existence in the first place. Essentially…it would be starting everything over from square one with a set-deadline date for expiration. Emet-Selch (Hades) later comes to realize this and knows your path was the only right one. However, he refused to cave in and accept it as it would make his 10 millenia of suffering, planning, and actions meaningless.
