18th Century Sheep Shearing

Sheep were an important commodity to George Washington at Mount Vernon. Today our livestock team raise and breed Hog Island sheep, a breed similar to those Washington kept. 🐑 🐏 ⁣

Once a year, the sheep are sheared using the hand shears made by the same English company that made Washington's shears. The process takes between 20 and 40 minutes for each sheep, depending on the amount of wool. ⁣

The effort put into this video, I can't imagine how hard it must have been to go back to the 1700s to shear a sheep, amazing job

I like how the sheep jumps like you’re cutting skin but it’s really probably feeling relief! Lol I love how dramatic they are, so cute!

Looks like it's way better than electric shears, less likely to cut the animal?

Thank you. Because of this, I now understand Isaiah 53 better. It means Jesus wouldn't resist, not that He wouldn't speak. Though, the sheep is pretty silent through most of the process, Jesus never plead for escape or resisted. He allowed Himself to be crucified.

This is part of a historical reenactment. Shears can still be effective at wool shearing, they just have different pros and cons as electric

Hey! I have Goodnews for you Dearie👌 The Good News is that God's promise of entering his place of rest still stands. It was announced to us just as it was to some people of old. But it did them no good because they didn't believe what God told them. They couldn't enter because of disobedience and unbelief. This is a call to enter into God's rest, so what is stopping you ? Is it disobedience? Jesus has been made a sin offering, he died already, allow him into your heart so you can find rest from your labour. This load is too heavy for you to carry, let him help you. Another Goodnews is that he is the only God that forgives and forgets (Heb 10:17, Heb 4 "I will never again remember their sins and lawless deeds.") saith the Lord. He is knocking, allow him today.
