Former MI officer here. Pro tip as anyone wanting an 18F (or any 18 series) MOS. You will need a Top Secret clearance and the number one reason why soldiers are denied/lose a clearance is because of debt. Don't go neck deep in the red buying that brand new truck after basic. Don't marry anyone with a mountain of debt. CCF looks at your credit report and sees too many collections? Done. So be as debt free as you can and don't fall behind on any payments.

When I was an 18F (back in the 1980's & 1990's) we were also responsible for intelligence collection and analysis, Field interrogations, PW and Guerrilla processing, propaganda coordination and dissemination, and a whole lot more. Can't see that it has change, other than the use of computers to look at real time information. It was a great MOS to have. I later moved on to 180A.

Because my recruiter didn’t put my arrest for weed in correctly seeing if it would pop up at MEPS, talking to his 1stsgt he said it would definitely pop up since I was fingerprinted etc. Pretty bummed out since it was exactly what I wanted plus the combat medic. Got to MEPS and he didn’t put my date in right and they didn’t have me in, I was supposed to get there the 8/9 but he said show up 10/11. So they didn’t have me in the system and now I gotta wait till next week to really begin this journey. Not deterred in the slightest but kinda annoyed, just another couple steps to the ultimate goal though. Your videos are really informative and good quality, keep it up Buck. Hey bro I had a question. Once I’m re-enlisted and complete all my training required. Do they do any additional backround checks? Or they just go based off your meps/military record? Guess what I’m asking is if they check your civilian record even if you have no signs of any health issues or anything of that sort? As long as you pass Meps should be fine correct?

  • @michaelvega3669

Dang I’ve always thought of that. Supposedly it’s just based off your MEPS investigation. They don’t check your civil just your military record I think? Anyone know the answer?

I love the concept of specialized MOS’s within a team. It’s that sort of thing that makes a team good. What I don’t like is the word career. One is so authentic while the other just makes me think “cynicism.”

I’m either wanting to do infantry or intelligence officer in SF mainly because I was told I was too smart to do infantry, I pretty much got a full ride to the Aggie corp but I have to chose a mos for the national guard I’m signing up for, does it follow into my active duty commission? Also how do I see the most amount of combat as an intelligence officer?

Still waiting on that warrant information. I've volunteered for airborne, I'll be there in may. Coming out of AIT, me and a few others are trying to go SF. I want as much info as possible, so I'd like to know the differences in responsibilities and training for Ranger Batt and SF. Thanks man, and congrats on all you've accomplished.

How would you equate mission failure to a teammate's death? Does the mission usually "fail" if you guys put yourself into a situation where teammates die, or are there examples of mission failure that you have where no one was killed (or hurt), but the mission still failed.
