1899 - 1902: Legend of the Boer fighter

It was the biggest empire in the world against the smallest civilized nation in the world. Hordes of professional soldiers against a handful of farmers and hunters, fighting for their homes. Not just our able bodied men, but 80 year old deaf great-grandfathers, 13 and 14 year old boys, fought back with everything they had. The evil empire thought they would crush us in a month or two. We fought them head to head for years. It was a terrible embarrassment for them. They could not beat us in a fair fight, so they made war on our women and children, burning our homesteads and starving our families to death in concentration camps. The evil empire's lust for gold had to be satisfied, even at the expense of any decency. I am grateful for my forefathers and proud to be a Boer.

A Dutchman is as much a Boer as me. And my family was in both boer wars and the great trek. The only sad thing is that the Netherlands is a failure in my eyes because they betrayed us, but I hold nothing against individual Dutch people.

We laid down our arms when they started playing dirty and put our wives, mothers, sisters ,daughters ,sons and babies in concentration camps where so many died. All because the English wanted the gold mines,we just wanted to farm and live peacefully on the lands we bought from Dingaan, before he murdered our leaders and then hunted the women and children at Weenen ,swinging babies by their feet and smashing their skulls on rocks.Thats why we are always ready to fight and defend our family and property with our lives.Africa is a tough country,as the saying goes

My mom family has been in South Africa since early 1700 as per the genealogy. I inherited the Dutch Bible from my mom the Bible our voortrekker ancestors used in the early days still has their hand marks on the pages. When I was a child in the early 1981 I met my great grand father on my mom side (he only spoke Afrikaans) he was born in the year 1898 spent his life as a sheep farmer in a rural area and I saw a painting or old photo of his parents back then. My great grand father dressed almost like the men in this photos. My great grandfather and his sons were large strong built men. Even though from rural areas I remember them being gentle family type men. I live in South Africa.

They migrated from Europe compelled by religious persecution. They settled in South Africa where they fought to settle in but a small region. An empire saw the value (in mineral resources) of the Boer land and invaded them. This empire could not beat the Boers on the "field of battle". Said empire resorted to winning by burning down Boer homes and crops then placing all Boer wives, children, and elderly within Earth's first known concentration camp. The Boers, driven by Faith and Blood, could not be bested im combat... not even by an empire.

Dankie, Vader God. Mag u my en my huis seën met u redding vir geslagte in Jesus Naam. amen #bloedrivier #16Desember1838 #Gelofte #Boere #Afrikaner #SuidAfrika #Voortrekkerhoogte #Pretoria

After 1901, the Boers were reduced down to 2500 "Bitter Eiders " , men who faught to the "Bitter End" against over 500 000 British and Commonwealth troops. My Grand Father , Pieter Willem van Heerden was one of those fighters. In 1902, General de Wet had to plead with his men to stop fighting , so as to bring the war to an end. The Hatred towards the British for their Genocide against the Boer women and especially the children in the brutal concentration camps where a third of the entire Boer people were murdered. My Maternal Grandmother was confined to such a concentration camp and the death toll from neglect, poor rations and living in a canvas tent during the brutal sub-zero winters with no firewood, resulted in a monstrous death toll, especially with the young children and the aged. And all this so that the British could steal the gold mines. The war crimes commited, especially by Australians who murdered surrendered Boer troops, has left a legacy that will never be forgiven. We are so pleased that the British Empire has collapsed and that Britain is currently being systematically invaded by their mortal enemies from the Middle East People who were also brutalized by the British Empire in the past. The "wheel of Natural Justice " turns, slowly, but it turns.
