Comparing it to the others, I'd leave it raw, I think you are right that it's been cleaned.

I think it's been cleaned. It looks darker around the stars and rim. I could and probably am wrong. It is beautiful. Thanks for sharing

I have the 1898 out of the package as well and my 1893 is MS 62 - I felt like my MS62 was in tragic shape - bottom line is that it is hard to judge pre 1933 gold...Did you send y ours in because I am noticing a bunch of the same marks on both of ours but yours is slightly more dinged up however it has similar color

Awesome Eagle. I agree it probably has been cleaned as the surfaces are littered with scratches typical of a cleaned coin. I would give it a details grade of XF45 or a low AU.

+MrMonkeySwag96 This year is probably not worth grading unless its perfect. Some of these coins sell better ungraded than details graded.

I enjoy all your video's, thank you. I know little on grading but your newest piece looks like it was cleaned in a washing machine compared to your MS63+.

Your driving on the wrong side of the road Numi. Oh thats right, your back in the UK. :) Yes, I agree with everyone, it does look like it has been over cleaned at some point in its life. I can see tiny abrasions on the coin.

The way if you tell a coin is cleaned. Is under 10x magnification. You will see little hairline scratches. If the coins expected graded value exceeds the value of the grading cost then you may as well get it graded.

That pre-33 gold coin is great- no matter, I think. Especially because it was almost free!!! Just beautiful! Thanks for sharing your awesome pre-33 slabbed/graded coins- they are just precious!

I have 2 gold coin

Go to the high points like the hair over her ear. That looks more worn then graded coins so I’d guess it’s a very fine-extremely fine condition but yes it was cleaned.

My first thought is definitely has been cleaned. There is a decent amount of wear on the curls over the year and on the neck. Probably AU details.

I really don't know if it's worth the gamble because I don't know what it costs to get it graded, but since you send a lot of coins anyway, I would probably take the shot and send it in.

What was it about the coin that lead you to suspect it may have been cleaned? Were there obvious cleaning scratches on it? I have a George V gold sovereign I suspect may have been cleaned simply because it looks too clean and shiny for its age, but no obvious scratches or weird dullness. How are you spotting the cleaned coins.

It's a nice coin, but agree with your assessment. I would leave it raw.

Some of these online companies sell the pre33 gold as "dates our choice ",and you're not sure what you're getting.Its a very nice historic coin,but for bullion purposes,gold eagles,maples,etc. ,you might get more bang for your buck.Good vid

Compared to the last slabbed coin u put it up against I would leave it raw. I don't think it's going to do better than the 63+ grade. Nonetheless its still a beautiful coin. Thanks for sharing

I think that’s it might be a high AU if you think it’s an MS then go get it graded. If you think it’s an AU I wouldn’t get it graded

Do not waist your time or money Get a nice holder and label it your self “AU” Details It does look cleaned I love the video !

Interesting. I just opened some stuff I inherited to have a look. Coins have been sitting for quite a while. I have a 1907 liberty $10.00 with an eagle on one side. It seems in very nice condition as it was in a felt soft holder. Are these coins worth anything

Irrespective of whether or not the coin has ever been lightly cleaned, it sort of lacks the "warmth" and "richness" of luster depth that an eye appealing AU coin can possess. There is a certain telltale "bare flatness" to its sheen. Accordingly, it would not be a coin that I personally would forever enjoy examining as being an "old beauty." Nevertheless, it does have great historic and bullion value - and could spark worthy numismatic interest during "show and tell" educational sessions with beginning collectors.

Thanks for sharing the video NM. I would say that it has been cleaned/polished for sure, but I'm in no way an expert with US gold coins. As for all this typical "youtube conspiracy theory" surrounding his "sponsorship" by the forum, it's all a load of bollocks. He's a straight up guy and there's just not enough money in it to make it worthwhile on other than a casual basis.
