Interesting! I transited through DDR a number of times and just before the collapse the border security was as intense as ever and took a quite a while. Then I went a short time after the collapse and it was such a difference to pass the vandalized and closed border control offices without stopping and no one asking questions.

I wonder what those guys tearing the banners down are up to today.
