1800-2300W GENERATOR MAINTENANCE GUIDE RYOBI PREDATOR WEN PULSAR GENERAC DUCAR WESTINGHOUSE + MORE!

This video also covers many more generators with Ducar internals! Watch this video to see how to identify if your generator has Ducar internals and if this guide will apply to you (likely if you have a generator in this wattage range). I have found a few with even lesser wattage, same internals at 1600 running watts, but most start at 1800 running watts+

    Great tip on using grease under the valve cover! Instead of some fancy oil in the air filter, I use fogging oil. I need fogging oil to put the generator away, so by using it in the air filter I have one less product to keep on the shelf.

    Wow. I hope you see this review. This is the best video on this generator. I just bought one right after Christmas in dec 2021. I live in a cabin in the winter and I need to to charge my solar barrel banks, run heating stoves, charge many things. I had no idea how to maintain a generator. Literally I learned so much today. I just had a feeling I needed to change oil 6 weeks later. I'm glad I watched this. I bought a spare bottle of oil but it's 12 Oz. It takes 8oz. I had no idea how to measure it or what to use to put the oil in it. It comes with one use cardboard crappy funnel. Generator is not cheap. I need to use it all winter and sometimes during summers for camping. I love lots of solar but summer but some days it's cloudy and I will run out of power. This video is amazing on maintaining this generator. Thank you so much. Is there any change you could make a step by step video how go install hour counter please? I already ordered every part on Amazon just now. Hour counter is very useful. This is my first generator ever, I want to maintain it. I cant afford a new one. Thank you for an excellent video. I have this robi generator. 2300 w starting, 1800w running. The exact same one I just got from home depot

    Thank you for the great reviews, it made my decision making a lot easier! I bought a Craftsman !2500 it came with a broken spark plug and a broken cap on the spark plug wire, "shattered" so I brought it back and because you said these small I generators are made by Ducar I ordered the Westinghouse IGen 2500 (I liked the control panel) it came with a broken spark plug and a "Defect" label on the box, I brought it back to Lowes and they gave me my money back, both of these generators were $599.99, two weeks later I was shopping at Lowes and they had the Westinghouse generator I had returned with a price tag of $299 on it and bought it. I replace the spark plug and the second pull it started, It runs great, I would not have bought the Westinghouse generator if it wasn't for you and I got an amazing deal!!!! From what I can see is the defect was the broken spark plug. Thanks again!!

  • @JUSTDREAMFREE

    @MR Garage (Random DIY & Projects) First off let me say thank you Mr Garage for all the things you do for everyone on this channel!... So far I followed every single step and I purchased all the supplies via your links in the description... But now I'm stuck... P1. When I'm using the 0.10mm feeler gauge on the tappet of the two valve I don't think there's clearance because they won't fit unless you're actually lifting up the valves tap it each time? I even tried to push a little bit and started to bend the feeler gauge. P2. I was told by a friend to add one tablespoon of Sea Foam Motor Treatment into the spark plug socket hole then install the new Denso Iridium spark plug and then the dialectric grease in the boot, next to add two tablespoons into the oil fill hole before adding my final oil after burn in regiment. You're Feedback is most appreciated and welcomed.

  • @MR_Garage

    @MR_Garage

    Жыл бұрын

    Hello! On your questions: P1 If the feeler gauge will not insert, means clearance is a bit too tight. Time to back off the adjuster a tad and re-check. P2 The seafoam treatment will not hurt so just depends on the hours on the gen if needed. Also, if put in the oil, you need to change the oil shortly after application is my understanding (not a seafoam expert)

    Very nice - you have a great gen ! Auto idle lets the generator idle down quiet when no load is present. Once a load presents itself, the generator will ramp up in RPM. The only time you should turn this off is during startup.

    I have two of the Pulsar G2319Ns and lent them to a friend and specifically showed him how to drain bowl once done, he did not have stabilizer in the fuel nor did he drain the bowl before bringing them back and putting them away, shame on me for not checking, as you might imagine next time I go to use they won’t start because gas has turned into turpentine. These carburetors are a little different than others if worked with, I cleaned the bowls unplugged the little jet (I guess that’s what is but its on the side of the pick up tube) thoroughly cleaned out all orifices and reassembled. They start and run but I am getting surging now. What did I miss. TIA BTW your video is very good and I did order several of the upgraded options for both of mine.

  • @wotknot1757

    @Jeff Pitt Low idle circuit is still partially clogged in the carb. You've got 3 options from easiest to expensive. Buy a 4 oz. bottle of "Mechanic in a Bottle". Remove all the gas in tank and pour in the MIAB. With the spark plug cable OFF (don't start it) pull the starter rope 15-20 times to get it down into the carb. Leave it for a few days to a week. Pour in fresh gas, reconnect plug wire and see if it'll run right now. 2nd option is to reclean the carb by using a torch tip cleaner, poking into all the orifices. 3rd option is to replace the carb. Good luck.

    Yep, a little bit of maintenance goes quite a long ways. Just ordered a fluid extractor and a set of feeler gauges; not sure where they wondered off to. I know that it is almost time to check and set the valve clearance. Also, I found that if I use non-ethanol gas and Sta-Bil gives me less headaches on equipment that I only use occasionally. I drain the carburetor when possible, unfortunately some small engine fuel system layout now days make it difficult to do that.

    Looking at picking up a Ryobi 2300 this weekend. Do you know if the spark plug type has changed. I was reading the manual from HD website and now shows NGK BPR7HS or equivalent which appears to be a 7 heat range spark plug and not 6? Also looking at the IWF22 from denso to replace it with if it has changed, iwf20 if not, but the manual also says a .6-.7 mm gap and the denso is .8? Would that still be ok or would need to be bent in slightly? Thanks in advance and for the awesome videos

    When going to iridium, no need to adjust the gap. The spark kernel will be well focused. Error on the colder side and check the plug after a long hard run. Environment, altitude, fuel ratio... all play a part.

    I would be surprised if it used a pump but I have not opened one up personally. Looking through the manual (excellent manual! I can praise westinghouse here!) it looks gravity fed. No reference to a pump and the layout on page 21 makes me confident it is gravity fed. Just a fuel filter off the tank.

    Hey Mr Garage! I have a question, I have a 2300watt Pulsar Generator. I’ve had it for about a year and have meticulously maintained its. It’s at 433 hours. I’m having an issue with it revving up and down. I took it apart and cleaned the fuel jet but is still doing the same thing. Any help would be great appreciated, thank you!

    Remove the spark arrestor and see if it is doing the same thing? Possibly clogged? Also, valve clearance check would be due by that point. Doubt it has to do with the bouncing idle but it would be due.

    @@MR_Garage thanks for responding! I checked, cleaned and took off the spark arrestor just now. It didn’t seem to do anything for the revving up and down. I’m kind of stumped, do you think it may be the little red inline fuel filter? It was flowing pretty good when I had removed the gas line from the carb. Do you think the carb needs cleaning??

    @Anthony Marquez Low idle circuit is still partially clogged in the carb. Good luck.

    Thank you for this video. I was looking for something like this. I'm going to buy all this stuff you're recommending. I have two pulsar 1800 watt generators. One of them works like a charm. No issues. Now. The other one I gave to my father-in-law. He rarely used it and kept it outside covered with a bucket. I'm starting to use it to give the other one a break but I noticed it's not running even, or at a consistent RPM? I guess it kind of like gets high and then low and then high and then low constantly. Any thoughts on what I should look at? Troubleshooting thanks again man

    Likely just a carb issue. Get rid of the gas in the tank safely, drain the carb bowl best you can and take the carb apart. Will need a thorough cleaning and you should be good to go!

    What do you recommend to store a Ryobi generator when you know you will be using every 4-6 months. Do you drain the gas and add oil to the spark plug. That is what I read in owners manual.

  • @MR_Garage

    @MR_Garage

    6 ай бұрын

    If I store any gas engine that long, I drain the bowl. If you want to go expert level, use a syringe with proper sized tube to fit the bowl drain. Once drained, inject ATF fluid back into the carb. Pretty much fill it and close the drain. When ready to use, drain the bowl again and fire it up. Will smoke a bit and take a little longer to start first try but the carb will always be 100% ready to go.

    I hate the carburator bowl fuel drain (clear tube) location as it's bent in it's current factory position... Can I just loosen the carb bowl nut and change the position to where I want it to be without having to remove the whole carb and then once I have it in the perfect location just tighten the bowl nut back to snug? Or... Causing problems by doing this process?

  • @MR_Garage

    You can, just a 10mm nut on the bottom. Can rotate it a little. The o-ring is annoying so do not drop the bowl all the way. Just enough to turn it a little.

    After 40 hours of use there is a problem, the IGEN 2500 became hard to start, I filled it with gas, checked the oil, and it would not start, there is a handy float bowl drain and I opened it and air came out once all of the air was bled out the generator started fine then after an hour it started sputtering and I found the gas cap was not venting. What could have caused the original hard to start problem with the air in the float bowl? I have had this generator for 5 months and only used non ethanol 91 octane gasoline with Stable in it.

    Same here with my Westinghouse igen 2500. Started with one pull until I drained the carb bowl. I eventually did get it running again and starting with a single pull I but have not used it for an extended period of time after that so hopefully it keeps running. Maybe there is a trick to draining the carb that I missed.

    Any issues with iridium plugs for my Ryobi? I want to replace it but I’m nervous as no other videos or websites says iridium is safe for the genny

  • @MR_Garage

    @MR_Garage

    3 жыл бұрын

    No issues. Iridium simply describes the center electrode material and general shape of the electrode (always a fine wire). What matters is the heat range and proper fitment of the plug. The center electrode material and shape simply changes the shape / focus of the flame kernel. The material has to be tough with a high melting point which is why iridium was the choice. Soft / lower melting point materials like platinum or gold palladium just wear out fast. iridium / fine wire allows for excellent flame propagation across the gap and even wide gaps under boost (for guys that tune only in high performance engines). But in small engines, this means the focused energy will nearly always fire even when wet fouled or oil fouled. This, and they last seemingly forever. This is why iridium plugs / fine wire plugs are simply a better choice over gimmicks and why nearly every automotive manufacturer on the planet has gone to them. There is no magic, or voodoo here. Just science and tech. Your engine will not run hotter, cooler or do anything other than run as well as it can and start easy. I know way to much about spark plugs to the point it is embarrassing sometimes (past life work) - carry on!
