Pragg technically won against the #2 and #2, bc before his match with Pragg, Hikaru was #2 and after it Fabiano became #2.

I must say, if Magnus beats the rising star Prag when number 2 and 3 has failed, he would submit his name as one of the best players in history. If its the other way around, it would seem like the crown has already passed on to the next generation.

Plus, the dude himself said himself that he wasn't the best so I'll take his words over yours. He knows his limits. He welcomes the challenge and is why he's more interested in rising stars. He would be deserving of the title best if he can prove for the first time that he isn't like old champions where age defeats their capabilities and they lose their edge to new bloods. Something Hikaru has said that age made them slower, and if they were younger, they would intuitively and be innately faster. If he can truly prove that he isn't like fabi and hikaru the number 2 and 3 of his generation, succeeding where they failed, that is when he will earned the title best. He doesn't need people to make excuses for him, he would be more insulted than anything, and is disrespecting what he has achieved so far

​​@@Riri-oj1zsprag in past have already won games against Magnus in time control, so yeah he does have chances there, ratings aren't reliable here cause prag hasn't played that many rapid tournaments last year, but him beating Hikaru and Fabiano in rapid it's very telling of his strength in time control, not to mention he arrived 30s late against Erigisi in 3min match and still won, so he has chances in time control, the real problem is Classical games cause if Magnus plays at his best imposible to beat him at Classical

because its a best of 2.. meaning you have to have 1.5 advantage each time control classical - > rapid 25 10 - > rapid 10 10 magnus won in classical game 1, draws second game (final score 1.5 - 0.5) therefore he advances pragg draws fabi in classical (1 - 1, tiebreaks 25 10) pragg draws again in 25 10 (1 -1, tiebreaks 10 10) game 1 (0.5) + game 2 (0.5) pragg won game 1 in 10 10 ( 1-0 , only needs a draw to advance ); draw game 2 (0.5 - 0.5 ) thats 1.5 - 0.5 at 10 10 time control therefore he advances.. hope this will explain everything overall (pragg 3.5 - fabi 2.5)
