Tiberiu Dolniceanu is a Romanian Olympic sabre fencer who is a European champion and a bronze medalist at World Championships. Tiberiu began fencing at the age of 13 which is considered late in comparison to other fencers from our ranking. The turning point in his career happened in season 2013, when Tiberiu won European championship and took the second place at the World Championships in Budapest. Until then he had not taken any individual medals! The second most memorable medal, after European gold, is the Olympic team silver medal in 2012. In semifinals against Russia, Tiberiu made +6 during the match, thus allowed Romanian team to win the bought by one touch. Tiberiu was asked once which medal he is proud of the most, he answered: “The nicest moment I've experienced in sports a competitive feeling, not medals!” In 2020, at the age of 32 Dolniceanu decided to retire just a few months before the Tokyo Olympics. Starting January 2021, Tiberiu began his coaching career.
