Thank you so much for creating this Series of Videos, so clear and useful. I've been Bookbinding for about 6 months, using traditional Bookbinding Techniques to create Leatherbound Journals and loving every minute of it. I found your 'Small Sewing Station' demo very helpful, I'll be making my own, as I apprenticed as a cabinet maker years ago and love a reason to dust off my tools, LOL. I'll make a change by adding Bolts with wing nuts to the tops vertical arms, so I can mimic the action of the larger traditional sewing station, drilling holes in the upper bar that will fit over the heads of the bolts, and I'll be able to raise the horizontal bar with the wing nuts to tighten the upper end of the cords. You also solved the End Paper Delimma I had. I order Japanese endpapers, and I'm usually not happy with the backs, though not stained, just off colored. Now I'll be 'facing' the back of the page away from the glue down with a paper of my choice. Again, thank you, I've picked up many bits of information to fill in any gaps in my knowledge and this has been invaluable. I'll purchase your book as soon as I can, of course, to add to my library. I hope that you might add more videos, in future. I appreciate you!! Karen

Thanks for the video! Which method is good to use to remove the endpaper from the hard cover? I was planning to use a hair dryer to loosen the glue.

I don't think blowing hot air on the cover would help; it would just dry it out more. If it is an old cover and you don't mind losing it the best way is to leave it under a damp tea towel with a plastic sheet and a board on top overnight. You can then peel the board off the paper (not the other way round). If you want to keep both paper and board you just need to apply enough dampness to soften the glue but not penetrate the board. Then remove it carefully.

@@angelasutton3297 I need to keep the cover and only replace the paper (purchased replacement from Hollander's). I will give option 2 a shot!

@@cnguyen32 hi, You can always just take off the old paper dry, and reduce the thickness and any irregularities by sanding it down. You can then put a new piece over the top.

How do I take the endpapers up off the book without damaging the book?

I assume you want to preserve the endpapers but not the outer cover. Leave the board with its paper face downwards on a wet (not sopping) tea towel and a sheet of plastic under a pressing board overnight. You can then peel the board off the paper; this means that you aren't trying to lift up wet paper, which will inevitably tear. Try to get the full thickness up at once, without leaving bits behind, as this means you have to scrape away at bits of board and that can cause damage. Sometimes the glue is not water based, and you may have to leave a layer of board on the back. If you are just trying to remove the endpapers from the text block it is a matter of careful persuasion with a palette knife. Hope this helps. Angela

@@trapmac5288 Best to use a damp cloth with plain water. But you will find it hard to lift the paper without tearing it. Taking the board off the paper is safer.
