Thank you! Mr. McCormick is delightful in the role, and this number (with its coda) is such a reliable showstopper. I've never understood why this show isn't more widely admired and performed, although it IS tricky to do with a small cast and difficult for amateur groups due to an almost all-male cast. But what a great score and book!

I know Brent Spiner was the original actor playing John Adams in the 1776 revival--Just curious--Did he stay very long with the show before Michael McCormick took over the role?

I saw this with Brent Spiner in December of 1997; but this number belonged to Merwin Foard anyway … he was great in it in person … RIP

The actor in the movie is goofier and less of an egoistic asshole. This guy has little lovable about him.

Yes, it's so much better! Something is wrong with this actor's vocal technique, and he's a bit stiff as a character.

Great performance. In the movie they had poor Ron Holgate sung much of the song while on a horse!

I mean, it’s seems that most of the songs sing are dubbed over and are not actually the audio of him singing on a horse. Still, I can’t ride a horse nor can I act, so it’s all still very impressive!

Yup, sounds like a real Virginian. (PS. The guy playing Franklin is the real Virginian. from Vinton, down below Roanoke)

Fun video - such a catchy song. Think I the biggest reason must be pretty female-dominated theater groups, like ya say... though you're not he only one to wish it were done more often. Unlike 12 Angry Men, which is fairly easy to switch to 12 Angry "Jurors," this is a show whose central figures are harder for girls/women to play since they're the founding fathers.
