17 Year Old 2 Stroke: Still good? Track Testing Porting and Mods

Ойын-сауық

Track testing our recently modified yz250 build to see where we can improve.
The yz250 engine dates all the way back to 1999, it's first release year of the CURRENT gen engine. Sure - some small changes but nothing serious since then!

He enjoys the familiarity for sure of a 250cc 2-stroke bike. Not a bad thing. He has that older YZ250 singin! He said it perfectly.. power on newer 450s is getting insane! Say 60hp @crank is average for KTM/ Yamaha /Honda/Husky/Kawie. A new 250F is plenty for me .

'06 was the first year for the Speed Sensitve Valving (SSS) for both the 125 + 250 which is leaps and bounds better than the old forks, and still considered one of the best OEM suspension setups still to this day.

@@DoctorMotorcycle true, but AOS fork (pre SSS but generally the same) and alloy frame was adopted in '05, while 48mm open chambers and steel frame left the chat in '04.

Don't waste your time on HP's mods. He's a snake oil salesman & just an average builder at best. Everything he "knows" is pirated from other builds/builders.

Eddie Sanders Racing has big Bore kits from 300cc to 396cc. The biggest bore is 85.5mm from ESR. Add a Hot Rods Crank Stroke Kit adding up to +4mm from 72mm stroke to 76mm. Going to the limit of both bore size and stroke would make the ultimate open class Yamaha if the AMA would allow any bike up to 500cc as it used to be in the day.

an electronically controlled 4 stroke banging off the rev-limiter will never sing like a 2 stroke motocross bike. It amazes me how little the two engines have to do with each other they are completely different one is a single piped organ ancient tech and arithmetic at work the other is a vacuum pump...

4-strokes rev higher/ make power consistantly in rpm range & put power to ground better. It's not ALL bout sound its more about the RIDE. 4-strokes destroy 2-strokes in lap times! I own & ride both. Get what ya like. Support the sport. Both new 2-strokes & 4-strokes on market now better than ever. #Yamaha #KTM

@@Davido50 those two engines couldn't be more different its a coincidence they landed on the same type of machine, thry produce different racing and riding . if you grew up in the bionic vacuum pump era you will never understand the nuance and harmony of the two cycle engine. dont forget the 4 strokes are twice as much displacement which is no longer an issue since the revs are higher. A four stroke can always be faster with more money lighter stronger faster TWO stroke doesn't make its power with more fuel and faster parts it has a number of phenomenon at play. They are more demanding to ride its more than just fitness and a rev limiter . you have to learn to play it, like violin or trumpet instead of being a DJ.. dont get m,e wrong the four strokes are insane pieces of kit but the big money will always produce a faster bike more money more go removes your ability get yourself in the game .

@@Davido50 I agree with that completely my statement wasn't fore or against just that they are different more than just a HP test Myself i don't want to see racing MX become like F! or even moto gp where software follows the bike corner by corner. I don't want MX to be practiced on a sym its too awesome . 2 strokes level the playing field to a degree as well as the pit where a really bright tech could build an affordable winning machine only with a winning rider . Without two stroke motorcross past there wouldn't be any motocross. Do you ever remember watching the four stroke nationals? where guys riding 20 year old bikes just because the way they feel ? Modern four strokes are amazing, blindingly quick and light, and easy perfect power delivery traction etc. predictable... but hey don't blow your mind like a wild awesome feeling 2 stroke It is like when you ride a horse you don't just swing your leg and climb on. 1st you must establish some degree of trust and respect and that contract only last as long as that ride. Every ride you respect the animal each time you swing the leg..

@@seanodwyer5536 I like the way you speak about bikes I feel your passion for them and the way they may have made you feel, nothing beats ripping a 2 stroke when everything just clicks and you're in that flow state. some of if not the best feelings in my life 🤘🏻😎🤘🏻I was never scared to ride a 4 stroke even the 505 ktm I raced but that vibration from a two stroke scares me and I love that it, reminds you, you have to be on your toes as she bites back if you don't respect her.
