Small Flowering Vines for Trellises
The plants on this list might require pruning from time to time if you want to confine them to a space of your liking.
1. Superstar Black-Eyed Susan
This fast-growing annual rapidly clambers over trellises with pretty bright orange-hued blooms. Grow it in well-draining soil.
2. Early Large-Flowered Clematis
This compact deciduous vine is ideal for small garden trellises. It offers stunning pink/lilac blossoms and grows best in bright and indirect light.
3. Kentish Belle
Also known as ‘Chinese Lantern’ or ‘Flowering Maple’, it is an easy-to-grow, vigorous plant that flowers year-round and produces small blooms.
4. Blue Morning Glory
This fast-growing vine displays large, heart-shaped foliage and trumpet-shaped blooms all summer long. You can also train it to grow in wire cages.
5. Tidal Wave Cherry Petunia
This half-hardy annual shows off bush-like structures that spill or climb depending on where they are planted. In summer, it gets covered with pink, purple, and white blooms.
6. Sweet Peas
‘Cupani’ sports highly scented and bright blooms in purple and violet color that last all summer long. You can grow this hardy annual from seed each year.
7. Climbing Roses
This little climbing rose can fill up a small garden or a patio with its scented pink blossoms. Make sure you give it plenty of sunlight to bloom profusely.
8. Rebecca Clematis
It offers beautiful blooms in a red and purple hue from late spring to early summer till fall. You can easily prune it to control the spread.
9. Star Jasmine
This small vine doesn’t climb high, making it an ideal choice for trellises. It displays pretty scented white blooms from late spring to early summer over bright green leaves.
10. Scarlet Runner Bean
This pretty heirloom vine exhibits red flowers that invite hummingbirds to your garden. The edible beans will be a fresh addition to your kitchen too!
12. Mandevilla
Mandevilla loves the sun and can climb up a trellis or arbor easily. It flowers in pink, red, and white hues and blooms from spring to summer.
13. The Canary Creeper
This yellow bloomer is from the family of nasturtiums and looks lovely with the contrasting combination of its flowers and green foliage.
14. Cup and Saucer Vine
The plant is named this way because its flowers resemble a cup, and leaves look like saucers. It is a fast-growing specimen that is also relatively easy to maintain.
15. Dwarf Rangoon Creeper
The starry flowers of this vine will surely tempt you into growing it in your garden. However, you might have to trim it on a regular basis to keep the spread in check.
16. Allamanda Vine
If you are a fan of yellow flowers, then you can’t ignore this one! It stays small and looks wonderful with its contrasting foliage and blooms!
17. Bleeding Heart Vine
The cypress vine stays manageable and displays an eye-catching combination of deep green leaves with white and pink flowers. You can easily grow it in small pots too.

I agree that zones would be helpful, but the list of all the plants is in the description/chapters. Easy enough to look up those we are interested in.

How has your experience been with cat's claw and what is your zone? Just curious. I'm in 10b and am considering planting cat's claw, but im hesitant based on what I've read of its invasive, aggressive behavior.

Just an FYI. Morning Glory is considered invasive in the US and some states have actually banned it. It's considered to be a noxious weed. It's also poisonous to dogs. My brother had it in his yard and it was surprising how quickly it choked out the other plants. We had a heck of a time getting rid of it. Hope this helps. There are some other wonderful flowering vine options, though. 😊

@@LifeOfTheParty323 Hello, I think you should be fine as long as you're removing the flowers before they go to seed. The seeds have an ability to spread by wind and by birds that eat them and drop them elsewhere, if you know what I mean.
