    The same thing is happening in beachside Florida my man, as a younger guy I have no chance at being able to afford anywhere where I grew up, New Yorkers come south and buy property for 4-5x what it should be and it becomes the new normal, most people I talk to say “yea just moved from up north 1-2 years ago” I’m only 20 and I’ve been here far longer then majority of my town now, it’s really depressing

    Grew up in San Diego. 5 years ago 2 bed apts were going for 1500 in SD now theyre 3500-4000. My wife and I were making 150k a year and were losing money every month. We finally said enough is enough and moved to a different state. Im 8 hrs from the coast now so I really dont get to surf much, but its crazy just how cheap everything is when you're not in california. It's hard not being able to jump in the ocean anymore, but whats harder though is realizing youll never be able to afford to buy a house in the place you grew up. There's a mass exodus out of california. Everyone is leaving

    Property taxes. Absolutely insane that we allow this to go on. It should be so illegal. But they don't care because the all that money you lost found a way into their pockets. Someone was forced to pay someone else who paid for some politicians campaign and told them what bills to pass and what taxes should be. The people working at the top of the government and their friends are all fat, happy, cats. Off of your wallet, and my wallet. Just your part about being forced from the coast hit home to me. I was thinking today how we lost my grandmother's house, our family house, on the ocean, where my dad grew up and where my grandma lived until she passed at 94. Now I have no access to the ocean and probably never going to. Sucks. You make the best of it so I have gotten into skating big time. I hope I can get back closer to the ocean this life but I doubt it. I found some campsites where I can afford a week or two by the water so thats a silver lining.

    The government doesn't provide new homes or anything. That's what home insurance is supposed to be for. The government basically provides short term emergency support. Like shelters and stuff. I'm not sure what you were expecting. Government funding is basically tax payers. Do you want to pay to rebuild everyone's home by substantially increasing your taxes? My neighborhood in northern CA burned to the ground a few years back. If you don't have good insurance you might as well forget about it. By the way, if he's out surfing it doesn't sound like he's doing much to "help his family" either.

    "government has pretty much turned their back on the whole situation" Seems these are quite broad statements with no data or reference. I've scanned the local papers and it is filled with stories about how gov is working to clean the area so residents can return. What seems irresponsible are the crazy conspiracies. When a town is completely destroyed it becomes a toxic dump. I just saw a story about how they are still doing intensive cleaning of the Harbor. An irresponsible local gov that did not care about the people that elected them would open up the toxic dump and allow residents to harm themselves. All of these local, state and federal operations are standard operating procedure in an extremely devastating disaster. I'm sure many mistakes were made, but I find the ease of these conspiracies depressing when the truth is right in front of us.

    This is a cool episode; I usually don't get this far in (32:00) and I really like how Eli brings the heart to the discussion. I like how relaxed and comfortable he is. The G-land story is cool. 38:40 *excellent:* regarding mosquitos: it would be horrible if we lost mosquitos, mosquitos are integral to blood which is integral to birds and reptiles and mammals which does really affect us. The problem is that it would be horrible mostly in ways that we wouldn't notice day to day. Take it from the man.

    I've used basalt to glass a board i made. I didn't use basalt for environmental reasons (probably not better in that sense), but more to try it. The biggest issues for me is any tiny issues in how the fabric is cut and lapped show big time because it is dark brown rather than clear. Even for a pro, it would be slower to get perfect and thus more costly labour. Also, that board gets hot in just a minute in the sun, so i have to be extra careful to keep it covered. Otherwise, basalt is comparable strength to s glass (I'm using epoxy, not poly). Hemp might be better from an environmental perspective but it probably has similar issues with colour. One could use a white tint glass job i suppose to hide the laps and reduce the sun heating...

  • @jamesroscoe7555

    @jamesroscoe7555

    8 ай бұрын

    @@rzadigi I think a large percentage of epoxy boards use bioresins like Entropy (that is what I use). I think the key to making environmentally friendly surfboards is to make boards that don't break so easily and in general hold up over time because all boards are full of non recyclable materials. Most of my boards I glass with s-glass (4oz 1x2) and so far they have been extremely tough. The basalt was more of an experiment, but honestly it was tricky at the laps to get right and has some cosmetic flaws as a result. I have a board in the queue (a step up) that will get an innegra/basalt cloth, again an experiment! Is your hemp board over EPS?

    @@jamesroscoe7555 yea it’s flax cloth over EPS. It’s shaped by Gary McNeill, who is Rasta’s long time shaper. So this construction was kinda designed by Rasta and supposedly he’s never broken one before. Which is a bit hard to believe but damn impressive if it’s true. My board is about five years old and holding up great.

Keep up the good work Boyz. 35 grand even as a single guy living in a San Diego County trailer park with my dog and no debt is rough. Surfed for 38 years , and this is first time that I recall skipping a session because it might not be worth the gas$. No bueno

    Can you guys talk more about your height and weight, board dims and what kind of boards you like to ride in different types of waves and wave sizes. I know you did once but I’m wanting to hear even more in depth. And might be cool to ask your guests every time you have a new one on.
