Your channel helped me so much! Because I am a wheelchair user, I never could travel alone with a suitcase. You inspired me to get myself a backback, I put on my wheelchair's back so I can go on trips for myself. I know,this is such an easy thing, but because I only saw friends with suitcases, I never thought about minimal backaging and traveling with a backpack. Even when I am traveling with others I don't to worry anymore for someone to look after my stuff, when I want to look around.

My favorite packing tip, as a woman, is to use contact lens holders for eye/face creams/lotions. Those little things can hold about two weeks worth in both sides!

one of my favorite tips i've learned from your channel is about subpacking with pouches. find a brand you like like topo or tom bihn and just get a whole range of sizes and colors. organize the items you use all of the time into those pouches and then it's easy to just grab the ones you need for today and throw them into the bag you're carrying. or just grab the one you need for the task at hand. i have pouches for dog walking, daily toiletries, first aid, covid safety, etc. on top of my dedicated tech dopp kit.

@@PackHacker tom bihn's halcyon organizer pouches get the most use. but i also have a few different ghost whales that i like. i'm very much sold on their tiny plastic clip and o-ring system. i really didn't think they were going to be as strong as they are. i also really enjoy my bellroy pencil case. it's got such a unique and functional design. how it can transform into pop-up valet tray when you need it as well as being a great art tool organizer.

Us glasses wearers usually have loads of glasses cases laying around. I've found them handy for holding all the small stuff I need to carry every day: tech stuff, medication, first aid kit, coins. If it's small enough to fit inside a glasses case, I've probably put them inside (including glasses of course). It's kind of amazing just how much stuff you can put in just one of these things, especially the big fat cases.

My HoH parent and I also use out little several inch round-square 'aid pouches for carrying 'aid-related stuff and misc small items.. The only good thing about having a disability, free carrying stuff XD

The older I get, the more "changes of jewelry (v. clothes) " I carry. This is a handy idea for carrying such. I can miniturize it by reusing tiny zip lock bags used for little electronic accessories and packaging them in fold~up reading glasses cases.

I used two small rectangular Gladware food storage containers in my backpack for my most recent trip. They provided some structure to the base of the backpack and held snacks without them getting crushed. Once one is empty, they stack together. Useful for many different items or protect items from getting crushed.

For the same purpose i have two little collapsible boxes. They stack on top of each other and fit perfectly at the bottom of my backpack. I love having the snacks in there - i have a good overview. I can go with the kiddo for a picnic and carry it all in my backpack rather than a basket. They are useful in my cargo trike too.

Taking a solid food container on any holiday had become a family tradition since my dad had to go find something to pack delicate glass in to get it home in one piece. Use for sandwiches during the trip then wrap delicate stuff in socks and put in the box in your case and everything get home in one piece.

I use a 1.2 litre Lock & Lock container. I stuff it full of snacks or small items while in transit. At the hotel I place the lid on the night stand as a tray for my phone, room key, jewelry, etc. The bottom goes on the bathroom counter to keep my toiletries together so housekeeping doesn't have to handle all my toiletries like my toothbrush to clean the counter. Sometimes take it to the beach to keep a few snacks or to keep phones, etc dry. Use it for restaurant leftovers too. Sturdy enough to protect small/delicate souvenirs for the trip home.

This is brilliant. I have watched just about every travel packing video that has ever been recorded (😂🙈)... yes, I’m a bit OCD lol. I didn’t realise until watching this, that what I was looking for was a SYSTEM, not specifics. Everybody has their own unique quirks about how much and what, specifically, they like to pack. Some things are specific to backpacking/hiking, others essential for hostels etc, and not necessary for staying with friends or at hotels. So watching pack with me videos has always been hit-and-miss. Mostly miss! Travelling with just three sets of clothes and a bar of soap might suit some, but not others! This is wonderful in that it actually gives a complete system, that can be applied to any bag, packed for any purpose and any length of time... no matter what you like travelling with (or without!). I have saved this as my forever go-to packing system. 💖 I no longer feel the need to watch any more packing videos! Thank you so much for such a clear and concise video packed with CATEGORIES rather than specifics for packing minimally. And also... for not saying that a minimalist should only travel with X amount of clothing, Y toiletries, or a Z litre bag! Great examples to demonstrate your points, without the waffle. Refreshing! 🤗💝🙏

- Leave with space in your bag, you don't want to be starting a journey at 100% full. - Make sure your airport outfit can also fit in that capacity. It's easy to plan you'll be wearing your heaviest pants, largest jacket, but what if it's hot the day you leave?

Good point, I sweat with regular light clothes through at minimum 2-3 t-shirts on a normal day anyway, and I think my sweat sets off the things you walk through at security, why would I want to be wearing my heaviest stuff once I get to the airport (having sat in a car for hours getting to the airport and already sweaty) just to triple sweat my way for the next 12? XD

I'm planning a trip to Scotland in September next year. My plan would be to wear a coat to save packing space but September in Michigan is usually still 80+ degrees. Lol too hot for a coat.

@@amymalone3995 I will say traveling in your walking boot is a great idea could they should be comfortable and at least mine were bulky and heavy so packing them would have been tricky.

I love finding non-liquid options for my toiletries, etc. shampoo bars. Lush is always a place I have to visit before I travel as they have solid versions for toothpaste, mouth wash, cleanser and even moisturizer.

The thing I took from this video was too bring extras and I completely agree, My 3 travel tips I learned from others that have been life savers is bringing toilet paper a roll or two some alcohol wipes and a prepaid Visa or Mastercard

i usually save a bit of room in my backpack for when i need to drop by the convenience store to grab some little grocery. this is convenient especially if you want your hands to be free while walking.

I've got a tip about sticky tape. Instead of rolling it on the pen causing it to malfunction, you can just collapse the tape roll and then remove cardboard tube. The tape will become flat and easy to store!

I recently got a Bellroy card pocket, and I love it! It keeps all my cards, and cash (including coins) secure, and even has a secret sim card slot... and it's the perfect size to temporarily attach to my Galaxy S20, like a phone case wallet

Finding the best packing system that works for you is definitely an iterative process. We've been on the road with the one carry on bag each since the end of 2019 and we're keen to streamline and update our gear further. You've given us some great ideas!

Always have dedicated chargers (phone, computer, and watch) in my travel bag. So all I have to do is grab my devices. I don’t have to search for chargers or undo chargers I have set up at home.

Great video and nice to hear from other people in the community. -I love my Buff and use it nearly every day in the fall/winter (it's freezing in my workplace). Always great to have something to turn into a beanie or a sleeping mask -I always carry at least 1 or 2 "reuseit" packable grocery bags when I travel to Europe. Plastic bags are not often available and these are small enough to just have in the bottom of your daypack if and when you need them. -Also, this isn't the most valid point during a pandemic (please don't do this right now!) but I have found many quality bags and accessories at my local goodwill/thrift stores: tons of Timbuk2, a Tom Bihn cafe bag, a Patagonia convertible tote, an Osprey messenger, a Cotopaxi Nazca 24, and lots of others over the years. Granted, you're not going to find this stuff on the daily, but there *IS* quality gear to be found for cheaper prices if you are willing to dedicate your time to search for it.

I use those little velcro strips to tame strap excess. Straps usually have a loop at the end where they are doubled over. I put the velcro strip through there, then roll (or more accurately, fold) the strap to a point where I still have some play for adjustments. Last, I wrap the velcro around the roll and the main part of the strap to secure it in place. Its not overly tight, but it does keep the many straps (shoulders, chest, load lifters) from just dangling everywhere. I know that, ideally, I would just trim the straps to shed weight, but I won't to preserve resale value.

I learned about packing cubes maybe 4 years ago before a family trip to Germany. Now going through your videos I'm looking forward to trying out some compression cubes for a trip to Scotland next year. All of your videos have great tips I hope to be able to use to pack lighter so I have room to bring things home. I've been fine with packing to get places, I just don't have as much extra space when I get there to bring things back. 😆

Putting your wallet in your back pocket is very 1970s. I recommend wearing cargo pants if you're a man and put your wallet in your cargo pocket.

I use a HeroClip with my Tom Bihn Synik 30 - it’s great for when you take your bag into an airport bathroom stall, where the hook is almost always broken or missing. Saves me from having to put my bags on the grimy bathroom floor!

As for travel wallets, I used to use an altoids tin. cards fit in perfectly right on top and you can put cash (bills and coins) as well as any other small items and it's inconspicuous in your bag.

I've been using an altoids tin while in japan! I added a stick-on silicone card holder on the outside for my train card and a clip on the inside lid for bills while coins freely move inside. I also have a small plastic sleeve w/ an emergency credit card on the bottom underneath the coins. I do need a hairband around it to keep it more secure b/c it doesn't close very tightly.

I like packable bag pack which is clever for extra items or as a extra water shield when going near fast weather changing or rainy coast regions to protect water sensible items (cloths, books & paper, electronics).

I became a huge fan of two brands regarding travel gear. At first I really got into nomatic products (which unfortunately don't deliver to Europe anymore ). I own 4 Backpacks, a travel bag, a sling a toiletry bag and two tech pouches of them. The second brand is heimplanet, whose transit line sling I bought 2019. Now when I start travelling on most of my weekends again I bought the Travel pack and I'm curious (tomorrow I start on my first weekend with it)

As an artist, the best thing you cant invest into is travelling brushes, magnetic tape and tin box to store some essential watercolors in. Also there are now available plenty of watercolor sketchbooks that are tiny enough to bring them wherever you want, with small size/small amount of pages. Also, I have made my own "pencil case" for my big watercolor set, there's one opening for tin pallete and other for brushes, pencils, pens eraser etc. There's nothing like that on market, unfortunately.

Very helpful info I don’t always go with gear recommendations because of cost and budget. I like my REID slim wallet ! I put my cords in used glass case for daily and travel use.

Vapur water bottles!! I have a one liter version that i routinely use for the past 4 years. They are much more durable than they look, i had mine fall off a motorcycle while full and it was just a little scuffed. They naturally become smaller as you consume the water throughout the day, and when empty, they roll up into nothing, smaller than the palm of your hand. I cant recommend them enough! For both travel and daily use. Ive lost count of how many airport water fountains this bottle has had water from!

I am always impressed about how much you American like to attach stuff outside of a backpack as it is something normal and not something you do when nothing else fit inside the backpack. Cultural differences. Also: how can be low profile using a binder so that everybody can see how many notes you have.

Pro tip: put your wallet at your pants front pocket and put a live mousetrap at your backpocket

I absolutly love my EC Global Companion 40l. Also, look into Thrifting. I found my -10°C Winterjacket, Autumn Jackets and lightweight Backpack in Thriftstores!

I know this is about sales. But there are some very simple hacks that everybody should use periods carries ziploc bags of different sizes. They're the same as packs plus they're transparent. Cables parent. Cables and liquids and everything else in between can be transported in them in different packets easily visible and easy to separate and take out. Another thing is to use hooks for anything that can go outside of the backpack the backpack and clip on to it saving space and adding so much more items as well as versatile situations in the one year that we all carry

Forget putting the duct tape around the pen, it's bulky, and then what do you do when you run out of ink? Wrap it around an old gift card. It keeps it nice and flat and can be moved from bag to bag as needed.

@@Roadent1241 He still loves them! Hell it got me to get a pair for my birthday and I've loved them ever since. Best headphones I have ever had, and the noise cancellation is a freaking dream. I'm not even exaggerating I've been a headphone nut since I was a kid and these are the best I've ever had. My cousin uses his all the time and I use mine every day.

For some reason my current brand of 'aid can't have the mic turned off if I switch to radio-aid (device I plug into earphone sockets to have sound transmitted to me) mode but a decade older one could....

You should consider reviewing J. lab headphones if you don't wanna travel with expensive headphones there are good option and they have decent battery life Depending on what model you Choose

In my osprey backpack I have also a great mecahnical coffee machine (the size length of my samsung phone A71), called Wacaco Journey limited edition and a thermos (Aladin, as leakproof closing top) 12hot/48cold liquid hold, besides essentials. This wacaco coffee machine never failed me whether in the park, hiking or a tennis court but cafe shop further away or non exitent in my hiking trails.

Why is there no video on the most brilliant travel pack of all? The jacket pack! Where you wear your luggage on to the plane saving luggage fees and guaranteeing you no luggage lost or stolen. You need something expandable but converts to a duffle type bag when you get off the plane. If it could also be lined with ensolite or closed cell foam it could also double as a sleeping pad when you need to overnight on a hard, cold, airport floor. This would make it much harder to compact and stuff into an overhead bin though. Maybe you could take it out and sit on it on the plane! Jacket luggage is so smart but the companies supplying that need aren't doing such a great job. You want a roll top design so it its only as long as it needs to be. Not easy to engineer I know.

The older I get, the more "changes of jewelry (v. clothes) " I carry. Sun/eyeglasses cases for carrying such works. I can miniturize it by reusing (earrings, pendants, etc) tiny zip lock bags used for little electronic accessories and packaging them in fold~up reading glasses cases (MUCH smaller than traditional cases).

I have found the capsule you get in kinder eggs are great for jewellery. If you don’t have them in your country the a small capsule from a Gatcha machine is very similar.

my HeroClip was a great purchase, but I don't use it as often as I'd like, it mostly gets used to hang dry my packs from a beam in my basement after a hike my EDC bag is an Osprey Metron and while it's not perfect, it's a step in the right direction for me

We hear you, Patrick. A lot of our Pack Hacker Pro Members also use Heroclips to hang up their bags in storage, it's a good way to keep them organized and to dry them out as you mentioned above. It's also great to hear that the Osprey Metron is working well for you so far. Which backpack do you think is better the GORUCK or TRIPLEAUGHTDESIGN

I've tried to find forkanife but I couldn't. We'll.. I did but it was around £100.I don't think a bit of stainless steel should be so much. Do you know where else I could find it cheaper? Thank you

Do you ever look at cheaper models of say a sling bag? £20/$25 range?

I brought a lightweight 30l Backpack on a Militarysale for 25 bucks. I use it for Groceryshopping, Weekend trips and hiking. First i thought it was a flimsy back but i is so sturdy and well made!

im so interested in gears but i dont travel at all

First check if you need a bag at all. For a day trip or a short journey you don't need more than you can fit in your trouser pockets. You do NOT need a whole bunch of keys. Take the front door key off your key ring, put it in your coin purse with the coins and leave the rest at home. You do NOT need 6 credit cards, 14 loyalty cards, money off coupons, photos and miscellaneous scraps of paper that have accumulated in your purse/wallet. Reduce your wallet to the minimum. You do NOT need much tech for one day. I have a 20 cm charging cable and a small plug if I must take anything. All functions on Kindle or tablet I just transfer to my phone. It's not ideal but better than sore shoulders from carrying a bag full of stuff you don't need. You might be walking for 3-4 hours and only use all the stuff for 5-10 minutes, if at all. For me the essentials are: Band aid (take up no space), hand cream ( in a small flat tin in jeans pocket), paper handkerchieves, a face flannel (for use as towel - microfibre is lightest and most compact) and a plastic bag to collect rubbish. Phone and wallet, of course. Job done.

A little tip for the ladies: don't put all your money in the wallet. Put some in your bra. Yes. It's a trick I've learned from my ex's mother, she travels and has traveled a lot, and yeah... I can say that this works, especially if you put all your cash in the bra if you only really need the card, in normal situations.
