16x16 Character Sprites Drawn In Real Time - Pixel Art Tutorial And Process
Ойын-сауық
Another video explaining my thought process behind making static characters at 16x16 pixels, including all four directional facing for use in game development, but NO animation!
This starts with a female looking character and I edit it into a male looking character later.

@@MomentaryUnicorn no prob. A lot of other tutorials focus on tools & broad strategy but I love following your vids because you share how you're thinking about something as you make it, and your style is awesome

@@cameroni178 Ohh thank you! Yeah I wanted to share the thought process behind it more so than the tools. Anyone can teach the programs I'm using and there's plenty of tutorials out there I'm sure, but understanding why someone makes the design decisions they make is very important too!
Love these videos. It’s easy to follow along.

Happy to hear it, thank you!!
I just joined a game jam, and finished a suggestion for a top-down character for my team... and oh boy is it time consuming to make those, especially if you want them complete with animations for 4 directions...

I can imagine! Its great when you have all the time in the world but that time restriction sure puts the pressure on!! Hoping for the best for your team!!

@@MomentaryUnicorn Thankfully I got an update, turns out I'll be allowed to only make 2 directions instead of 4, we'll use a more beat-em-up approach to characters, while still maintaining a chibi top-down perspective..... it will make it so much easier for me...

Is this program on mobile and on tablets or just pc? Is there a fee to use this program and can the program animate the sprite?

There is a free version of Aseprite called Libresprite that you can use. libresprite.github.io/#!/ You can also download a program called GraphicsGale graphicsgale.com/us/ which is also for PC but free! I don't use GraphicsGale myself but if you want a lot of sprites on one image I hear it handles it much better than what I use. I don't think there is a mobile version of these programs, and unfortunately I only do art on my PC so I'm not sure what program to recommend for mobile, but I've heard there are people who only make pixel art on their phones so there must be some decent apps there! Wishing you the best of luck, if you have any other questions I'll be happy to try to help you!
WAIT AESRPITE???!!! THIS THAT PROGRAM??!!! THAT I SEE YOU PLAY ON STEAM ALL THE TIME
