16th Karmapa: Interview with a Buddha

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

On the 16th Karmapa’s second tour of the West in 1976, he was interviewed on a television program called “Vermont Report.” He was joined by Jamgon Kongtrul Rinpoche, who answers a question and Achi Tsepal translates. This video presents the rare opportunity to hear the voices of Karmapa and Jamgon. #Buddhism #Karmapa
Seated on stage in the retinue are Bardor Tulku and Jigme Rinpoche (Shamar Rinpoche’s brother).

Transcript by Dakini Translations is at dakinitranslations.com/2021/1...
In addition to leading the escape of over 100 monks across the Himalayas to flee the Chinese invasion, Karmapa:
-- Had the monks bring complete sets of the Kangyur and Tengyur canonical texts that are essential to have for the sanctification of new monasteries. In terms of sheer volume and weight, they’re a literal carload and this was done with horses and mules. Of course, they had to also take supplies to sustain a large expedition.
-- Oversaw the construction of Rumtek Monastery in Sikkim, India to serve as the seat of the Kagyu lineage
-- Kept lineage masters together to rebuild the lineage for approximately ten years. They would have otherwise resided across Tibet. The sheer number of people who resided in Rumtek that we now consider great teachers is impressive to consider.
-- Raised a generation of teachers from children who now lead their own networks of meditation centers and teach internationally
-- Collaborated with the United States Library of Congress to make copies of the Kangyur and Tengyur, which were then provided to monasteries across India, Nepal and Bhutan.
-- Gave extensive teachings across North America, Europe and Asia on yours in 1974, 1976 and 1980
-- Established and maintained relationships with leaders across the world to promote peaceful cooperation.
-- Encouraged young lamas to learn English and these lamas would go on to teach Tibetan Buddhism to the West, most prominently Chogyam Trungpa who would publish many books as well as become the teacher of Pema Chodron. Another example of Karmapa’s ripple out effect was Chokyi Nyima Rinpoche who would subsequently influence Western students that became the scientists who did the foundational scientific research on the effects of meditation.

Wouldn’t it only be a blessing if you agreed to assume that the claims about the lineage of these persons is a) Accurate , and b) That the Buddhists here did not make an unintended error, c) Buddhists in the video did not intentionally make this up for any reason, even for a good reason. (In the third option for example they may have good intentions to preserve Buddhism against the threat of communists.) How could anybody verify their claim? Isn’t it claim that the Buddha (Siddharta Gautama Buddha) said that no one should believe him only because he says something but that people should verify?

In the 1970s, my great grandfather traveled to India to seek the blessing of the 16th Karmapa, who was known for his high clairvoyance and compassion. During this visit, His Holiness surprised everyone by informing my grandfather and others that there was a higher lama residing in their place, Paro, Bhutan. This revelation, showcasing the Karmapa's remarkable clairvoyance, led to the recognition and reverence of the highly Tibetan lama (Rinpoche) in Western Bhutan. The incident not only astonished everyone but also highlighted the spiritual significance of the region. It is believed that the 16th Karmapa's extraordinary abilities played a crucial role in this chain of events. Many view him as a reincarnation of a great bodhisattva. It continue to inspire and guide us all.🙏🙏🙏

@@Ismaelrodenbrock I know what you mean. Some realized beings manifest wrathful behavior, which is a feature quite a bit difficult to put in a few words. Actually, I'm just thinking how to explain it and realizing that one has to be at least at a basic level of understanding of tantras and karma. They absorb too much darkness from the envoironment and from the world. It affects them in turn in a way, that they have little energy to pretend they are laughing attractions for pleasing western expectations of what a realized person should be behaving like. However, they completely shine and loosen up when an exceptional person with great capacity for dharma shows up. But in contact with mundane ''pashus'' there is not much energy to waste on them, cause they already know what capacity and why it wouldn't work. They are minimalist in a way. Onw brief gaze and he knows your entire life story and what you are capable of and where you are going in terms of your life direction. - if in their physical presence contemplating, one WILL definitely feel their otherworldly pull. I have been in presence of several realized ones with similar potentials. Sometimes it can completely mess you up so you can't fathom what is going on - the difference in the states of experience is too large. Other times it may be very different, your entire body starts vibrating and shaking with incredible bliss. Many years ago, I used to drive one such person in a car to visit our guru. I have on several occasions nearly crashed from the immense pressure his presence was causing. It's like something is pulling you out of your body and you're losing consciousness... Felt like falling asleep and there was no reason for it. It mostly happens before the body had developed the necessary capacity to be a good conductor for this type of influence. Many tantric teachers are like that - very wrathful and inaccessible; H.H.16th Karmapa was like that. Dudjom Rinpoche was like that as well. - also, some wrathful radiation develops spontaneously, just by practicing and connection to wrathful deities.

one point of view is that there is no one who has mind or self-consciousness that does not have the nature of a buddha. the difference between a sentient being that hasn't recognized that it possesses this buddha-nature and a being that has realized this lies in the state of unveiling that took place. we can only see what our conditioned mind enables us to see while we think we see the world and its beings in an objective way. in today psychiatric aid we see that beings who suffer from trauma fe don't have the option to see a peaceful situation for what it is, they translate it fe as a frightening or a lustful or an insulting or what-have-you situation. we all do this translation of reality albeit in a less dramatic manner than a trauma patient and in a way that results in a behavior that is acceptable for society and so we can move around freely and go about our life in a way that we think is as we like. when we realize one day that we act in fact out of fear or out opportunism or out of any imbalanced state like frustration or hope for recognition or what have you, we can understand that we are - at least partially - deluded and can apply a method to diminish our delusions. at that time we can turn fe to the buddhist teachings. they have a centuries-long tradition of having tested and applied techniques that help beings out of their delusion into a sane state. this being said, human beings are very different in their illness and a technique that works for one illness probably doesn't work for another. that is where these masters come in who are like trained doctors who see what is most needed for the patient at that particular moment and work with their patient as good as they can. that is my understanding at least :)

Thank you so much for making this video available, what a jewel, H.H. is the living Vajradhara, what a blessing, this is not a personal to anyone, but I think translations in general, but I think no translators are good enough to translate for somebody like Him, oops did I say somebody? Hi is not somebody like us, He is like I said before, if there is an Inlientent one, then that is Him, therefore if someone is even trying to translate for Him, that person is very breve, unless translateletor is just as Inlientent as He, if not, then atlees that person has to be Dharma practitioner, other vice it is not possible, so there for I thank just knowing English is not good enough, bicouse whoever is interviewing, that persons English is ollrady good, but that was not good enough, that is why hi bad to relay on translator, I am saying all of this bicouse translator are the one that makes the Lamas sounds like them, in the end I would like to apologise to everyone who are refunded by me writing this, bicouse I don't mean to offend anyone, but to eprishead the H.H. Gyalwa Karmapa. Karmapa La Namo.🙏🙏🙏🌹🌹🌹❣️❣️❣️
