16 April ROBOTS GO IN MASSIVE DAY
Great day today major progress on the dairy build robots are on the move. It was actually really easy to put them in all the stress was for nothing the boys made light work of it! Ceiling or floor went down well and we now have a platform above the robots to put the chemicals and compressor on.
in 2009 i had no experience of farming or the realities that came with it. That soon changed when I met my other half Roy, I had a job as a carer and in every spare moment threw myself into farming. I had only ever driven a Nissan Micra and had experience with horses, I learnt the hard way as nobody had the time to show me and soon after arriving I found myself mothering on calves to three quarter bred limmy cows. We spent every available moment on the farm between our day jobs. Fast forward to 2016 two children later we moved into our very own farm overlooking the northern Pennines, Laitha.
we are in a transitional period at present and will finally be milking cows and making the final switch later this year, after years of planning and implementing infrastructure we will be milking 120 Jersey cows on two Lely robots. This will be a huge change and a steep learning curve
I will be taking you all along for the ride so hit that subscribe button and see you every other day for farming vlogs.
I am overjoyed to be a farmer. I feel so fortunate every day to wake up and do what I love and even better share it with the world and hope it inspires more young people from Preston to spread their wings and think outside the box the world doesn’t need more childcare workers or hairdressers it needs more farmers.

Charlotte It's yours and Roy's Farm you do what you want, and you will always get the couch critics who have nothing better to do than argue why have you done one this way one that way... As long as the cows are healthy and happy with the setup you are going to be using that's all that matters...
Your videos make me smile
Your shed so you and Roy decide. 😅😊 We just love ❤️ 😍 you and your videos. Good luck with the Cow Palace.😊

The way you explained where the panels are and why makes perfect sense. I’ve loved every second of watching this wonderful shed come together. Looking forward to seeing it full of cows.

Great job changing the spike, I know a lot of men that can’t undo one of them. Not long until cows arrive
Let them talk Charlotte, the panels on both sides of the shed are in the RIGHT place. Your explanation makes perfect sense.
A gem of a video great to see the robots in and great to see how you look after your animals especially the little lambs 👍🏻🇮🇪☘️
Hello my dear. Its your shed, Do it YOUR way, robots are going to be very snazzy when they are full in, looking forward to seeing them working. I did not envy you going between the hawthorn and the barbed wire, just as well your not my size. Take care. Witchy. X
Sorry to say this charlotte, ive added comments in the past, including the panels on one side of the shed, but both are wrong- blocks laid inbetween the uprights would have resulted in a clear run on the food and dung sides. Any silage pusher on the floor fed side has got to contend with the stantions sticking out, removing waste a hand job. Youre creating extra jobs for yourselves, believe me honestly. Theres a lot, a hell of a lot to learn yet, work to do day in day out. Dairy farming is one of the hardest jobs going. But also one of the most rewarding at times, thats why i loved it for over 35 yrs.

Did consider shuttering between the girders but the gap is 15 inches before the thickness of the steel, would you have shuttered that thick?
@ipfreely10001
2 ай бұрын
@charlotteashleyfarm sorry didn't realise the gap was that much, so obviously blocks wouldn't fit- but yes, I would have shuttered it and poured concrete, bars drilled in the ground, so both sides were smooth to scrape, feed against. I know it would've cost more than using the pre cast concrete panels but it's a once a life time and beyond job.
Love it !! 😂😂 When you were saying about the panels 😂😂 I was thinking exactly what you were saying 😂😂 Love the shed , looking forward to seeing your Jersey Girls !! Keep us smiling Charlotte 😁 x
Your sheds coming along great charlotte keep up the amazing videos . Xx
Omg nearly there, well done Charlotte and Family and everyone else involved with the parlour. It looks amazing 👍👍
You will always get a few who think they know best, but at the end of the day you do it as you want. Keep the video's coming, on the crapiest days you put a smile on my face, wouldn't be the same with out your videos.
Hi Charlotte, I am one of those who got onto you about the panels. Good explanation for why you went with the 2 different ways of placing them. I would have put both sides on the outside. On the inside of each panel I would have fixed a length of rubber the width of what was left in the rsj and the length of each panel to give the cows more comfort while they are standing eating. The rubber would have given you a straight line then for scrapping out the slurry. But, at the end of the day, it is what works best for you.The shed is looking amazing. I'm looking forward to seeing your cows in it.

Well actually I did a video today I’m so so pleased I didn’t put them on the outside on both sides it’s a PAIN to get round the steels with the scraper
What a milestone congratulations🥳🥳🤠🤠🐮🐮🎉
Reminds me of a campaign for men's testicular cancer that had posters in site toilets ... "Check your nuts daily ... " Thanks for the clarification of the panels.
the view from the top of the robot house needs a permanent camera so you can add in b roll of things that happen while you are away. looks a great view and looks a stunning shed. on the panels put them in how you want/need them if needed on a quiet day move em. thanks for sharing
I was going to correct you when you said bolt when it was a nut you were looking for but then I heard what you said about the concrete beams and I had second thoughts about doing that 😂😂. Doesn’t the shed look well with the robots in place and you now have a big space in your store to fill again 😂. Great video Charlotte. The big day is getting closer. I hope we are all invited for the opening 😂
Really getting exciting. 😊
The great panel debate😂😂. They should be on the outside the cows front feet will pull any sh1t away as they move back so wont be a problem scraping then the feed side is easy to scrape old feed away.
What's the song you always use please. It's really catchy. Doing a good job really enjoying your journey to milking cow's. Same thing I do every day
A good explanation.
Still can't work out how many years it's going to be before they start making a profit from dairy cows, especially as the market is hard to make money from milk .

I think the panel should be on the outside you are making your self a lot of work keeping the feed fresh it all litre milk produced, not whether you can show of like lewis Hamilton with the scraper🤣

Robots in da house, yaay
Charlotte, you are right as always
No idea if it would work but what about some kind of small barrier or 'cap' around the base of the uprights to stop feed gathering in the I shape? Might help save time cleaning🤷🤔 end of the day your are damned if you do and if you don't so go with what you feel is going to best for you, it's your cow palace no one elses❤
I say on the inside is better that way like you said faster way of cleaning an keeps the feed out the rain
Plenty of running your mother or you haha, your shed how it works for you! Blacks eyes? With lambing running around making the shed ready, meetings down south! Borrow Joe seels make up! Great blog! Robots WOW
I think you know your shed better than anyone else and ignore keyboard warriors.

I'm afraid that ratchet wrenches should not be used to break nuts,or bolts lose,it puts too much stress on the ratchets,a breaker bar is best to start loosening. Also it is best to use a wire brush, and rust remover on the threads first

NUT not bolt pet. They are encouraging us to do that for a few quid in subs as well but after watching the hardship you are after getting with the double fence they can keep their few quid. Just one daft question when the guys fire up the robots after they are fitted,do they supply the fibreglass cow that they have at the shows to check that everything is working since you don’t have any cows yet? Got ya ! Regards from Ireland,oh and don’t worry about the armchair experts opinions are ten a penny.
What was the 5 minutes of black screen at end then a tad of music?? I thought panels inside so flat to scrap along

@charlotteashleyfarm rubbles cheap even over time, only needs to be keenan width minus a metre already there as panels would be inside stanchion, sure alot off make up would be old stuff round yard already ,reverse down with keenan is easy enough doesn't need concrete, just hard-core apart from metre already concreted, guess saving 40k

how often does the robots flush themselves out and the pipework taking the milk to the tank.......is it after every cow milked or once an hour ???........with a conventional parlour you wash out at the end of each milking and what about the detergent......all automated i suppose.........if it flushes out after every cow it's going to use a lot of water. every woman's biggest nightmare.........a prickly bush😂😂
