16,500 RPM - Reuse 12V Super High Speed DC Motor from DEAD CD-ROM | Brushless BLDC Motors

In this video I am going to salvage high speed brushless DC motor 12 volt from an old CD ROM drive.
This motor is 20 years old and runs at a very high RPM of 16500 at an input of 12 volts DC. This BLDC motor has large number of poles and has a very small Core.
Also, the motor speed is so high that it can actually fly like a toy helicopter. I have also elongated the shaft for making it more useful.

remove and reuse 2 neodyum magnets in the lazer assembly..they are easy to remove and super powerfull for any project needing small square magnets.just pry them out...

For salvaging purposes, yes it is a nice video, but seriously, there are no real life usage of CR-ROM and HDD brushless motors. They have no tork and can only work as a simple fan.

Fantastic! I have two questions: 1) Is this high speed obtained due to the motor or the driver? Or both? 2) You didn't use it, but what is the function of Hall Sensors in these motors? Or, in what situation to use them? Thanks for sharing the video.

Both. Hall sensors identify the polarity/position of magnets
You can also desolder the motor

So your xbox cd motor is dead ? Try taking the damaged motor out look for serial number search its serial number on Google you may find replacement parts good luck
