    Do you have a mathematical explanation of why this works? I think I kinda understand the isosceles triangle explanation when the lines are flat on the ground, but I can't wrap my head around how it should work in general when you can move the measuring points around like this. It seems like you can choose any point on the arc as your measuring point as long as you make sure your measuring line is parallel to the line between the vanishing and measuring points.

    Yes, you can put the MPs anywhere on the arc, as long as your measuring line is parallel. If you do this you are still making isosceles triangles. It's just that the isosceles triangles are angled to the ground plane.
