    To me, the AT-AT is as useful as the Imperial and Victory series of Star Destroyers. Like it would certainly be one heck of a pack mule. Also the AT-AT Swimmer, when I first thought of it, the mental image of a stock AT-AT swimming is what came to mind.

    I've always loved the AT-AT so much! They were always terrifying and awe-inspiring and I love how they can just demolish almost anything in their way with very little actually beong a threat to them. Not invincible, but very awesome. I just wish we could see more of the AT-AHT and how awesome it looks.

    The AT-ACT (cargo) seems like it would come in extremely handy for an imperial commander needing to resupply Forward Operating Bases through difficult terrain. Just another one of those logistics details that make the Empire’s capabilities so impressive.

    It has uses, but realistically you should just use a cargo starfighter, the cargo is just so slow that you'll need a lot of big ecostly peices of machinery that have to make its way in and out the biggest advantages of to the cargo would be to support a base that HAS to keep it's shield up

    @@calebbarnhouse496 Consider potential hostile AA capabilities, IRL equivalent to not using cargo helicopters due to MANPADS like Stinger or Igla. Heat-Seeking Ground to Air Missiles seem to exist in star wars relatively commonly, so having an all-terrain armored cargo vehicle can definitely has its use. Again to reference real life here, the US military utilizes a Swedish vehicle known as the Bandvagn 206, or in US military service M973. It is an all-terrain, multi articulated (weirdly similar to the AT-AT) tracked vehicle that they use to resupply outposts and FOB's that are inordinately difficult to reach or may be in rough terrain that can be at risk to hostile actions.

    @@damascus1111 firstly, that this isn't close to the scale of an ATAT, and it's not trudging along at ATAT speeds, the reason cargo ATATs don't work is that if you want to ship material on a starwars planet you are also going to need to ship cargo into space at some point, and to do that having the same method to ship both works best, and isn't nearly as expensive as an ATAT, the reason we don't have a lot of air freight is purely because our tech dosen't allow it

    I never noticed that the First Order AT-AT's chin mounted laser cannons were swapped out for a ramp to get to the cockpit. Now I'm imagining the walker either stepping down to the ground to open the cockpit, or the walker going up to a height matching access station (like when we saw Luke Skywalker exiting the Imperial AT-AT through the side of the walker, into the station to meet Vader on Endor)

Fortified it, too - surface-to orbit ion cannons, shields over every major city, tanks and guns from looted Imperial armories. Orbital bombardment would take years, and repulsorlift assault, likewise, was impossible. They were winning, alright... until we deployed AT-AT walkers. They went right through the shields, shrugging off blaster fire and stepping on armored cars and war droids. After 6 hours vaughian royalty and their rebel friends have capitulated. "The Force" and "hope" can only do so much against Kuati durasteel".

    People always cite the tow cable thing as a legitimate flaw of the ATAT, but it isn't. Only pilots as good as Rogue Squadron were able to execute that manoeuvre. Not only that, but the ATATs themselves took out many Rogue Squadron pilots during their attack. This is despite most of the Imperial forces not being able to make the journey to Echo Base thanks to Ozzel's foolishness. Only the ATATs and ATSTs were actually able to survive the harsh Hoth weather, whereas the Juggernauts and other support vehicles couldn't make the full journey.

  • @undraftedboomer5055

    @undraftedboomer5055

    Yeah its definitely a last ditch effort. Not only was it an extremely dangerous menuver, but cost the lives of numerous pilots. Especially if the ATATs had its proper escort fleet, the Rebels wouldn't have even touched them. In most assualts ATATs would serve as the fist, taking the brunt of enemy fire while serving as a powerful long range artillery. Smaller walkers, ground vehicles, and repulsor vehicles would serve on the flanks, preventing enemies from circling around and exploiting the ATATs weak neck or underbelly. These escorts would include smaller walkers like the ATST, ATAR, ATRCT, and later imperial models of the ATST like its assualt varient. Ground vehicles would include possibly the tracked CAVw PX10, A5 or B5 HAVw juggernauts, or hovercrafts like the swift assault 5. Repulsor vehicles could include tanks like the S1 Firehawke or 1H, which were not only fast (faster than Saber tanks), but packed armor and a great gun. This gun was powerful enough to take out contemporary tanks, accurate enough to shoot down low flying airspeeders, and had a range of 5km. Other repulsor vehicles include LAV chariots, RTTs, ULAVs, and the awesome A9 Floating Fortress. Vehicles like the A9 and LAV boasted incredible sensor and communications systems. Speederbikes the the 74Z or repulsor scouts/skiffs would serve as scouts and reconnaissance. Dismounted infantry would of course be used in urban or forrest environments, the bane of the ATAT. The empire was a fan of combined assault. Obviously they wouldn't use all thse vehicles in a single engagement, as that was dependent on the resources available to the naval fleet above. But contrary to popular belief, the empire didn't use the ATAT solely, especially as a one size fits all "tank".

    @@undraftedboomer5055 Precisely. The worst time is whenever people compare it to the ATTE to demonstrate how weak the ATAT is even though A. They don't fulfil the same role and B. The ATTE is arguably far worse thanks to its exposed gunner and lack of protection for its pilot. Its armour is described as being heavy but this does nothing to protect the crew from anything but glancing shots, it has clear weak points which can be exploited by conventional means unlike the ATAT. The Rebel Alliance modifies the walker to fix these issues in canon, but since these aren't official changes unlike with the ATAT, all it shows is that the walker never improved.

  • @undraftedboomer5055

    @undraftedboomer5055

    6 ай бұрын

    @tk-6967 yeah I hear you. Don't get me wrong, the ATTE is iconic and has that cool factor. But if you take a deeper dive and take off the clone-fanboy goggles, it becomes very apparent how mediocre the walker is. And I'm not claiming that the ATAT is perfect. The neck is pretty blatant, and the underside is relatively vulnerable. But if the ATAT is used like how it was designed to be used, these issues are practically thrown out of the picture. The neck may still be vulnerable to closer range artillery, but for them to get more than a few shots off would be rare (ambush scenario). The argument that the ATAT is incredibly unstable is also kinda BS. Yes, it's not a squat beetle like the ATTE. But it's stands stable enough through heavy enemy artillery barrages and possible minefields. And the ATAT, with its advanced topographical sensors, as well as those found in the head, should forsee most traps, ditches, or tripping cables. Really this unstability is reference to mountainous terrain with sharp slopes and valleys. Here, the ATAT will struggle, unlike the ATTE. The ATAT is a durable long range assualt platform, aided by its height, armor, and long range weaponry. Plus, it has a decent transport capability (light walkers and/or infantry). It is designed to be complamented by other smaller vehicles. The ATTE on the other hand is a kinda confused walker. It's designed to fulfill so many things that it just ends up average at best. It's great when used defensively, or as a light assualt IFV/APC. But that's about it. And it's not like it can stiff arm the enemy, as it's design and armament are inherently mid to close range. Therefore, giving the CIS a better opportunity at exploiting the ATTE's weakspots. The cockpit is susceptible to even dwarf spider droids, and if knocked out, the walker is immobilized with 2 crew dead. The mid section is a glorified ATAT neck. The bottom is thinly armored, susceptible to mines or accurate munitions (wouldn't be a problem as most munitions in SW are short range, but the ATTE is a mid to short range walker) The mass driver is powerful, knocking out most CIS armor, but it only has a range of 2km. And the gunner is VERY susceptible to enemy sharpshooters or even nearby concussive blasts. Lastly, while the 6 laser cannons are great against infantry, they only cover frontal and real arcs, leaving the sides exposed. Again, this wouldn't be a problem if the ATTE was a longer range assualt piece. Where the flanks could more easily be guarded by GAR support vehicles. In the end, while still obviously escorted by Sabers, ATAPs, and other GAR vehicles, the ATTE is still a liability. No matter which way this thing is facing, it's showing off a weakspot. And while the clones inside are safe from enemy small arms or light artillery, the arrival of any CIS tank or any dedicated anti-armor equipment greatly jeopardizes this things survival. And yes, again it's got the mass driver, which could reliably take the first shot (Especially defensively). This is because of GAR recon and the awareness of the gunner and spotter. But at what cost? If the CIS shows up in more than 1 or 2 AATs, Hailfires, HAGms, OG9s, MTTs, Snail tanks, any number of droid repulsor/walkers, or even a the cheap droid Saber-ripoff repulsor tank, the ATTE is at serious risk.

    The AT-M6 as become my favourite model simply because its the ultimate seige weapon of war. The First Order AT-ATs are my second favourite because they a have sleeker and more stable design in a lot of ways all thought may have less fire power over all they still fill the armoured transport role very well in delivering troops to the front alone with deploying lighter walkers like first order AT--STs basically in the massive combined arms of intimidation is just epic on the battlefield. Sure small scale raids are cool with whole surpise tactics in all but if your found out it your mission maybe in jeopardy and risk failure or capture however such missions are important to be able aquire intelligence on main rebel or resistance or other enemy strong holds or disrupt the lines of communication for the defenders. But massive assaults like this are truly an epic sight while absolutely demoralizing the enemy its a rather awe inspiring sight for your own assault infantry. Just imagine being newly recruited first order storm trooper during the Battle of Crait and seeing one of these Massive AT-M6's utterly destroying enemy ground speeders zooming towards it. Or Seeing one just eradicate enemy heavy armoured forces someware with no effort or smashing even powerful turbo laser turret batteries effortlessly. With that loud pile driver like sounds of the heavy front feet lumbering forward drowing out even the loud piston engine sounds of standard AT-ATs lumbering onwards. I ams sure the sound of said legs could be heard for miles and the defenders can only evacute for that is the sound of their impending doom drawing near.

    While the AT-AT and its variants are good for what they are, there's a distinct version I see missing: a wheeled variant. In fact, here's how I'd redesign an AT-AT Body of the AT-M6 Wheels, with the front and rear sets being similar in design to the front feet of the AT-M6 Reinforced lower armor to make mines less deadly And a modular design. Capable of swapping between troop carrier (could probably get at least 1 platoon in there, maybe even 2), a vehicle deployer (speeder bikes, AT-RT walkers, or even a few AT-ST walkers), point defense weaponry to serve as both an anti-air and anti-infintry vehicle, a command center with a theater shield generator like what was seen in the Clone Wars, a massive cargo transport for the ground, or the M6 cannon (the front and rear wheels providing stable support to keep the vehicle in place while firing)

Called "Gustav", at 80cm, it was the biggest "Gun" ever created (that wasn't a mortar). It proved to be far more trouble than it was worth to transport, set up, align, shoot, wait until cool, shoot again, etc... I guess Kylo had better success, since he brought so many to Crait.... 😉

    The AT-M6 is what the AT-AT should be, a massive weapons platform that can unleash an ungodly amount of firepower, with smaller walkers like AT-STs and AT-TEs preventing the enemy from flanking it.

    I think the AT-M6 would take out the AT-AHT if it was strictly 1v1 just because it's main armament is so absurd. That being said I think the AHT is a more versatile vehicle

    How the heck did a local garrison modify an AT-AT into the swimmer? Did they have engineers on hand? Did they let the local college's engineering department have at one of their AT-ATs? And the machinists? Did they order the parts? Are garrisons given a budget for that kind of thing? Did they take them from other vehicles? That is a LOT of change. I imagine that repulsors take a LOT more power than leg actuators for one.

    Agreed. It looks cool and is extremely iconic. But when you look at it from a realistic point of view it becomes clear that standing very tall and exposed isn't very great when you're beeing shot at and your underside isn't that well armoured. Additionally the exposed neck just screams: " Hit me with some precision guided munitions!" I wouldn't be surprised if you could modify a Javelin missile to hit that and take out the walker.

    I wish there was more information and lore on Krayt/Fel's AT-AHT. I like the way that thing looked. More elephantine with an insectile head. I cannot stand the way it is depicted in Empire At War mods. Its an AT-AT but it isnt a dog-camel shape nor is it simply an AT-AT upscaled. Its a evolved beast, and it DEFINITELY is not a version of the admittedly cool Gorrilla walker AT-M6 from the god-awful disney canon.

    with the shadow AT-AT i doubt u could cloak this if u tried, with big stomping and a shape with lots of angles it isn't really a prime candidate for the empires cloaking resources. love the At-IC design though
