The TSA approved locks are a joke. I’ve had two TSA locks cut off my checked luggage with a note left inside from TSA that they had to cut it off for inspection. The company that sold the TSA approved lock offered a money back guarantee if the TSA needed to cut the lock, but I had to submit the cut lock. TSA threw away my lock after they cut it so I couldn’t get a refund (The low cost of the TSA lock doesn’t make it worthwhile to submit a refund claim). I complained to a TSA agent because I thought they had a MASTER KEY to unlock all TSA approved lock. The TSA agent said the only MASTER KEY that they have is a bolt cutter.

I put colored duct tape all over my suitcase. It makes it look ratty and therefore undesirable.

Over two decades ago I experienced this at the Miami International airport. Ended up in a yelling match and me threatening physical harm. The woman finally gave up. She was attempting to quickly take off with my bag. I no longer check a bag.

My work uses bright orange equipment tags with a string. I swiped a couple for my luggage. I knew when my bag came down the conveyor. The only one with 2 orange tags on the handles.

The safest gears are the ones that looked like that of the backpackers, since thieves know backpackers do not bring valuables and are mostly minimalists. The more expensive the suitcase looked, the more likely it would get stolen. My decathlon softshell suitcase has never caught the interest of theft compared to my pacsafe backpack.

Hard-shell cases & luggage-wrapping are NOT relevant to theft-prevention. A "TSA approved lock from a reputable brand like Master Lock": 1: "TSA approved" only means "openable by ANYBODY". 2: Master Lock has the well-deserved reputation of being the easiest lock to pick, usually needing only a hard tap or at-most a wave rake. No comment (good or bad) re the other suggestions.

I am a wheat char person who had a bad experience at Toronto Airport when I was taken to the caramel the bags from the caramel were taken off and lined up side by side in a line like in a que and there wasent anyone to help me get my bag then a man comes to me from a staff and tells me he will charge 20 dollars to take my bag with his trolly to the outside of the airport .never seen this sort of Kay's before .some of the staff just hanging around gaping at thin air others fight with one another and yet some bullying their new college. Sadbecause I understood the languages in which they were speaking. Toronto Airport scares the hell out of me.

This is a fairly ridiculous video. Many airports in major cities are routinely populated by loitering persons, homeless or otherwise, who can and often do simply walk up to the carousel and take whatever they want and walk off. People with nothing to lose are completely indifferent to closed circuit cameras, brightly colored stickers, or unique tags or identifiers on your bags. Nothing in this video to prevent that from happening.

Nothing on here about the officials who my be common thieves. You put your bag through the x-ray machine- they claim there is something untoward and direct you to a "colleague" or should I say accomplice who demands you open your bag and in the chaos they cause , usually by querying the liquids in the plastic bag, they take your camera/phone/laptop etc which has been flagged up to them by their friend sitting in front of the x-ray screen. They get paid for doing their job and earn a bonus through selling the stolen goods. My valuables excluding phone stay very securely wrapped in my hold baggage- has never come to harm yet.
