Napoleon was NOT great and his greatness is a lie proffered by French and British historians. Geniuses do not die in prison, isolated, defeated and full of regrets like Napoleon. Geniuses don’t leave their countries occupied, defeated, and never able to recover from defeat the way Napoleon left France. Geniuses don’t turn a complicated situation like war with Britain, and make it even more complicated by waging war with everyone. A real genius takes the complicated and makes it simple. Napoleon did the complete opposite. Many times Napoleon, with a powerful army that could out-gun the enemy, would just barely win through sheer numbers while being a colossal drain on his soldiers and country. This ineffective strategy led to drain and defeat, and it was France that paid the price. In the end France suffered dearly because of Napoleon, and it is a shame that French and British historians have lied about the greatness of Napoleon in order to glorify their own history. A French historian wants you to think that Napoleon was a triumph for their own morale, but Napoleon is a story of tragedy that cost the lives of millions. A British historian wants you to believe that Napoleon was a genius instead of a madman. Wouldn't you rather defeat a genius than a crazy madman. These are the lies that these historians want you to believe. But the facts are out there. Read about Napoleons disasters of Egypt, Spain and Russia, and it is a complete LIE that Napoleon ever conquered these places. Read about Napoleon getting swindled by the fledgling United States in the Louisiana Purchase. Read about how Paris was occupied in 1814, and how France was tired of Napoleon. Don't let these historians make up your mind for you.

@@lsatep so you are saying that nobody deserves the title great and that Alexander should have known his kingdom would collapse same with Charlemagne and that Gustavus Adolphus shouldnt have lead the cavarly charge at Lutzen and that Catherine should have prepared his son to become a monarch and that Alfred should have known that the danes would come back and conquer most of his kingdom and that Hannibal should have sieged Rome. so you are saying if someone did even the smallest of mistakes they dont deserve the title great. After receiving my commission as a Field Artillery 2nd Lieutenant, I started reading about Napoleon's life, and ambitions. He wanted to be a man of letters; meaning he wanted to be a writer at first. Not an Artillery Officer, Emperor nor Conqueror. I found this to be interesting, I also wanted to be a writer, but ended up being an Artillery Officer. I wonder if one of his many mistress was a Spanish noble lady; during the peninsula campaign. Hmm... interesting.

I think Napoleon is an example of a smart man being forced by his circumstances to do great things, as Admiral Halsey observed about all 'great' men. Most of the generals Napoleon faced were desk jockeys hoping to reach retirement, not desperate men facing death and destruction of their homeland if they lost. It makes a difference.

The presenter finally correctly pronounced the name of the small island where Napoleon was exiled. During the first part of the video, she mispronounced the island as Saint HELLena, but later on, when she was describing the wine that he liked on the island where he was deposed, she actually pronounced it correctly. According to the locals who are known as Saints, they pronounce their Homeland as Santa LEENa, or as we would say in the US, Saint HellENa, and not Saint HELLena..

Sgidi ka Senzangakhona was "Shaka" Zulu's real name. Son of chief Senzangakhona, brother of Dingane ka Senzangakhona. Both brutal killers. Dingane murdered Sgidi to take control of the tribe. The Zulu "kingdom" was a scattered, unorganised clan - never a "kingdom". Much less a civilisation. Sgidi was 'curious'. There are accounts of him cutting pregnant women's bellies open just to see where children came from. Another account tells how he cut out some of his impi's (foot soldiers with assegai's and cow's hide shields) eyes. Just to see if they could live and if so, how useful they can be. When he figured out that cutting people's eyes out made them blind, he had them killed. Hardly the romanticized "king" everyone thought he was. In fact, his own people hated him and his brother Dingane so much, they conspired with the Dutch and the Swazis to have Dingane exiled and murdered. In fact, the Zulus terrorised every group of people they came into contact with while they migrated. The original inhabitants of their "kingdom", the Khoisan, were murdered to extinction in the area. A genocide. Zulu history is vicious, impulsive, violent and very, very awful. I am a South African - I know the real history of the violent and aggressive Zulus. Don't believe me? Google - I implore you.

Napoleon was a pretty good guy. He introduced and invented the metric system and the civil code. Before the rich guys and the guys at the church didn't had to pay takes. 3% of the French population where the rich guys and the people from the church, but they owned 75% of the land and well over 80% of all the money. The rich got richer and poor got poorer. Napoleon chanced this and limited the power of kings. His brother Louis Napoleon was king of Batavian Republic aka the Dutch satalite state of French and we really liked his brother. He even took lessons Dutch so he could talk to his people in their language and really cared about us. If Napoleon wanted to rise the taxes so he could affort war his brother would't let him becauze he knew that the his people would get hungry. One time a schip in the harbour blew up and there was a big explosion and Napoleon's brother was one of the first to arrive on the sight and he helped to carry the wounded. And an other time the dam broke and again he was one the first to arrive on the spot and again he was helping. Nowadays it's pretty normal to travel to place where something sad had happend in your country if you are the leader, but back in those days most king didn't gave a shit as long as they where well fed.

Napoleon was unlucky on 18.06.1815 - If Prussian Blucher didn't entered the battle with his cavalry about 3-4 PM no way Arthur Wellesey could have won no wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy Although Blucher was beaten in battle of Ligny 2 days before he regrouped and tailed Napoleon to Waterloo otherwise sure Wellesley knew what the score would have been despite the fact that he had a good defensive position and Napoleon's heath was not good and woke up @12'ish noon that day already after General Ney's 2 Cavalry Charges were successfully defended by Infantry squares....Pity £urope would have been different today and principals of French Revolution would have genuinely survived and stretched to United Kingdom and ofcourse to USA rather than piece meal to both .... *Main problem was his going after Frederick to Moscow in 1812 even with todays technology no way it was possible especially then*. 700 000 soldiers making up Grand Armee of all sorts (like a medium size city moving ) herds of caws one million bottles of wine moving to East

Napoleon - Since he reacquired the Louisiana Territory in 1800 and sold it to the United States in 1803 that means he was the ruler of "Americans" for about 3 years. Not "United States citizens" but they were still "Americans". Fascinating.

Exactly, Napoleon was NOT a genius and his greatness is a lie proffered by French and British historians.

Napoleon is one of the 'great' figures who shaped Western history and civilization. His works on law are still hugely influential in Europe today. But Napoleon was, despite his virtues, a detestable authoritarian... He respected neither freedom of the press nor the need of his soldiers to sleep between battles. As for personal character, when he returned from defeat in Russia... He issued coins and proclamations of victory(of which he'd many...) and in this way escaped public rebuke. The truth is that the core of his great military, his valiant and veteran officers etc. was largely broken in Russia... A war-like contempt for Russia has been a fatal mistake of Napoleon, Hitler, McCarthy etc..

There are so many things wrong with this video. 1. Napoleon wasn't born in 1796. If that was true then he would've been eight years old when he crowned himself emperor in 1804. He was actually born in 1769. 2. It wasn't the "cold Russian winter" that made Napoleon retreat from Moscow. It was actually because the Russians had evacuated the city before he got there and set it on fire to prevent him from forcing them into surrender. At that point he had no hope of meeting them in open battle and he was running dangerously low on supplies, so he had no choice but to retreat. The winter only set in after his retreat had already begun. 3. Napoleon didn't escape from Elba because he thought they were going to move him to Saint Helena; the Congress of Vienna only decided to put him there after his escape. He'd actually been paying close attention to the political situation in France while he was on Elba, and because of that he knew that the French people would most likely welcome him back as Louis XVIII was extremely unpopular. When the fleet guarding the island left he decided to escape. It had nothing to with anything the Congress of Vienna was planning. 4. It's Duke of Wellington, not Duke Wellington. That's just his title; his real name was Arthur Wellesley. 4. The whole "chicken a la marengo" story is most likely a myth. 5. Napoleon didn't exactly change Josephine's name. Josephine's actual name is Marie-Josephe-Rose, but Napoleon preferred to call her Josephine which is a diminutive form of "Josephe", her middle name, rather than Rose which was what she usually went by. Also, it was not uncommon for men at the time to have mistresses. Josephine herself had been cheating on Napoleon long before he ever started cheating on her. 6. Napoleon didn't have a phobia of cats. It was actually Napoleon III, his nephew, who was afraid of cats. Josephine even owned several cats which she kept at their home in Malmaison. 7. I have no idea where you got the fact about the buttons. French uniforms have had buttons on their sleeves since the early 18th century. 8. The last fact is completely false, too. Carriages didn't have a designated side of the road they had to drive on. This didn't become a thing until the advent of cars almost a century later. Please make sure you actually do your research before posting any more videos like this.
