ANOTHER TIP FOR FEMALE SERVERS!!!! When serving hetero couples, I make most eye contact and put more of my attention towards towards the girlfriend/wife!

That may be true because female waitresses that give me most attention. My lady has an "indirect" attitude but when they address my lady most of the time, then she says, Daddy tip her more.

Also when serving gay couples (lesbian specifically) yes they exist... tend more to the feminine one, when asking if anything is needed(the eye contact). Even if the more "masculine " replies. (Same as with hetero couples)

I really like the sticker idea! I have a ton of different colored pens for my customers to choose from when they sign their receipts. I ask what their favorite color is and they always look a little confused but when I show them that I have a pen in that color for them to use they always get a big smile and are in a much better mood regardless of how my service was or how their day went.

I'm a pretty new waitress and I felt like I just wasn't doing a great job. I was doing OK, most of my tips were about 20% and the food mostly came out right. But I tried all these tips yesterday and boy oh boy it made a difference. I worked a double shift on Tuesday and I made more money than I had on my double shift Saturday. I'm baffled at how great this helped. All of my tips were 20% or more, one tip was $40 on a $50 tap!!! I cannot thank you enough

Great tips! Especially on the friending cooks and hostesses. You definitely don't wanna piss off the people making your food and seating your tables. I think I'm one of the only servers that does tip out the hostesses on a busy weekend morning. If you're super busy with tables that also means they are super busy as well, and they will be more likely to help you bus your tables and get drinks for them if they know you actually appreciate it. The only thing I feel like you missed a point on is on the dessert offering. We serve a shit load of pie and cake at my work and one thing I've noticed is try and ask your tables about dessert before they are finished eating. They are more likely to save room for dessert when you put the idea in their head sooner. Otherwise if you wait until they are finished eating chances are they are already full and probably don't want dessert at that point. Usually when they are a little over half way through their meal I will say "don't forget to save room for pie today" and always remind them they can take it home with to enjoy later.

I've been serving/bartending for over 30 years. your video is so informative, I love it! I work at a place that employs A LOT of brand new servers. I think it's a rule or something. just kiddin. but seriously, Most of the new hires have no experience which makes me extra appreciative of your video as most have not grasped these concepts yet and watching your video will only reinforce what we more experienced servers have been trying to get them to understand. my boss, the sweetest, hardest working lady I know, asked all the wait staff to watch this, pick a fave, then discuss the tips and tricks with her. job very well done, yanni. thank you!

Ive been serving for 4 months. I was fired at my first 2 serving jobs for sinple shit. Extra bloody mary on a closing receipt for a wealthy couple cost me my job the first time. An angry outburst due tonlack of team wirk cost me thr 2nd job. The 3rd job i learned from my mistakes.. Im now the head server and trainer at my final job. I got there with hard work and serious studying. I love being a server now. Thankyou for the tips.. Literally lol

Variation on #6- let's say your job doesn't offer appetizers (like the restaurant I work at) let your guests know about your soup options (or salads) before they think about their entree. If you can add on a bowl or cup of soup or salad before they order it's just as effective plus if they order something that is a "dip check" or a pre-made entree you dont have to worry about anything coming out late.

you can also suggest an entree as an appetizer. by that i mean, an entree that is not labor-intensive or an entree that can be split/shared by the table. if no appetizers are offered by the establishment, an entree-sized salad might be a good substitute. if appetizer-sized salads are on the menu, then take into consideration your price points, then you'll have a better idea of whether or not that particular suggestion would be worth while.

I've been serving for ten years and most of this I agree with depending on where you work I agree with all of it but if you're serving in some places lower price places diners like a quick breakfast place or a BBQ joint places where folks walk in knowing exactly what they want they can't stand being up selled it's irritating to then and you're seeing the same people everyday so in that senario instead of a long introduction and upselling suggesting so much just get to know them make a friend hey how's your day going what are you having today something like that get people to talk to you and get people to laugh if you can get a table to laugh you make them have fun they top you better in smaller cheaper places they will come back more so that's my only advice different I enjoyed your tips and they're all on point just a little different depending on where your serving
