15 Reasons Why Toxic Guilt is Not of God

One of the traps that keeps us bound is the "God Label" that we put on many guilt ridden thoughts we get stuck in. We attribute God as the author of toxic guilt, which keeps us stuck in cycles that do not produce freedom. When I discovered that God was not hovering over me with condemnation, accusation, guilt and shame, it revolutionized my journey. But it took some time to put it into practice. Today I want to bring out a number of reasons why toxic guilt is not of God.

I was stuck in toxic guilt for decades. The church told me this was the Holy Spirit. So thankful God showed me he is not like this! He showed me his amazing love, in the midst of my mess.

Thank you for sharing. I can completely identify. I've struggled to read scripture for a long time due to seeing (reading) it through the lens of guilt, shame and condemnation. I'm so thankful that this material is available - there are many out there under this weight; many who've been told and believed all this to be from/of God. So incredibly grateful Mark is shining the light ✨

Thank you, Mark, for the incredible life-giving freedom-finding material. I thank The Father for all he's brought you through. Myself - along with so many others - have been longing to be set free, and your personal journey, where God has brought you from, and your ability to relay what you have learned, is being used so mightily by God. So much, thankfulness, gratitude and deep appreciation 🙏🕊️✨

Thank you so much for sharing that, because this has happened to me on and off for about a decade now, I would take it the same when I know that was not happening before when I started my walk w the Lord, then a toxic relationship that was constant condemnation, to find someone else was doing that as well, as if they were angry, get me because I had that peace with God and that enjoyment in personal relationship with him, I found in my life some people did not like that at all which was extremely shocking to me, whether they are aware of it or not I really don't know. But makes me sad, being around that too much can make us that way, there is no condemnation. For those in Christ Jesus

I have just finished a year of therapy as I was extremely suicidal. My therapist told me that I’ve carried toxic guilt all my life and when she explained how it starts in childhood it all made sense as I was in a very abusive family. I have felt for years that I am responsible for everybody and everything wrong that happens in my family. The work we did was life changing to me. I have had close Christian friends tell me for years that I carry too much guilt that doesn’t belong to me and I never really understood it until I did the work. What really stood out to me was that Toxic guilt isn’t from God but from Satan as I am constantly being accused by family members ( including my adult children) what I learned through therapy was that my adult Son has narcissistic qualities and for years I have been codependent and been allowing him to abuse me. I have since cut contact ( which is heart breaking as a mum) but it’s the best thing I’ve done for myself in years. I am still getting abusive messages from him and other family members but I now realise it’s manipulating on their part. So that really stood out to me also as confirmation on the work I did in therapy. I knew God was in the midst of my therapy and I know He wants me to be rid of the toxic guilt. It’s also confirmed to me when you said God want me to focus on my health and wellbeing and my relationship with God ( which is much stronger now) Thank you SO much for sharing this as it was important to me I see it confirmed from a Christian perspective 🙏🏼♥️

I had to be taught that focusing on my sins more than God made my sins an idol. Ex 20:3 "Thou shalt have no other gods before me." KJV The WHY you do something governs HOW you do something. If you follow Christ cause "you are a bad person" your walk will be distorted but if you follow Christ cause He is good you will have freedom!

Part of letting go of the " inner pharisee" is to understand that we are not perfect but GOD is meaning we can't go with guilt and self condemnation and trying to live perfect in our own . That is a religious mindset that can lead to a lot of mental torment. JESUS IS THE WAY THE TRUTH AND THE LIFE JESUS CHRIST CAN ONLY SAVE US . Not ourselves and not man etc.... Let's look at what Scripture says 1 John 1:8-10 New Living Translation 8 If we claim we have no sin, we are only fooling ourselves and not living in the truth. 9 But if we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness. 10 If we claim we have not sinned, we are calling God a liar and showing that his word has no place in our hearts.

Something that prevents me from getting out of the OCD cycle is that when I have some bad thought or intrusive thought, I feel as though I have to do the prayer, which has to be in the right order and just right. If I don't, I will feel that everything I do from that point will be tainted, and the guilt and fear will just build up.

I’m about to listen to this; I’m at a point where I don’t feel enjoyment, but have desire. I care and empathize, but not for myself. I’m let down by people so often (go figure; and, I underestimate what God is doing in my life possibly from others being toxic or dismissive.) it doesn’t matter how many good days, when eventually the narcissist in my life comes back to wipe my mind clean of all progress I’ve been making. If I don’t let them affect me, somehow it STILL does. Oh and I’m financially tied to them and have been beat down in my confidence for such a long time that I never make a good wage wherever I work because I let others walk all over me, or else I get highly aggressive rather than assertive. I’m literally run dry, and if not for Jesus eternal, living water… I’d of been eaten by vultures by now.

Greetings Mark, I hope all is well. Great insights, and I can definitely identify many factors, within myself and certain behaviours. What I sincerely believe to be the guilt cycle, truly seems never ending, in my experience. Once one particular issue, causing such feelings of guilt and anxiety, is seemingly 'effectively' addressed, soon, or eventually another arises, and the analogy of 'running on a hamsters wheel' seems a fitting description. Thank you very much for the information. Blessings & Love 🙌🏽 💫

Mark thanks a lot for dismantle obsesions ,fears, through God' s Help. It is frustrating how people are influenced by this(me included), I dont even Trust to go to church nowadays cause they can start to use a word-choosing condemnation-headed, or even citing a list of Things to please God Otherwise he wont love you(subconsciously I think That), I am not a Preacher of courses I know Sometimes they make mistakes and even they want to make a Blessing Message, but my Filter is so dirty And fearful to what I am going to hear.. that.. even I foretell every Moment trying to predict If what they are going to say is healthy for my ears,my brain or not. I have some questions Mark (anyone could Answer): What do you think About churches that every single monday deliver an offering-message citing the Bible, is it manipulative, is it Bad intended, it is for taxes?. How can we discern a manipulated Message Cover with Bible verses?.

It is a truly biblical and contextual, very clear and without doubt, conviction of the wrongdoing, that leads to repentance and the grace of Christ. It is, like Mark said, not out of context or manipulative. You have to discern if you are being workbased or trying to pay the price, since it is not always possible to do restitution
