I bought the full video series with Coach Huber from Breakthrough Basketball and I can say that these 15 drills are a drop in the bucket in terms of the wealth of knowledge you get. I only wish I had this series before I started coaching my girls team this year. I was not asked to post about this - and there is so much more content if you want to help develop basketball players.

I liked when coach had players having to make decisions against their opponent. I never heard coach ask players questions on options and there is too much explicit coaching. Quick rules of drills and then let them go at it. Check out basketball immersion. Stay away from uncontested drills. The representative learning design is not present. They will never face decontextualized open no defender in any game. It doesn’t have to be high pressure but it must have decisions, not just following coach directions. Unless you want your players to only look to coach for answers. Trust in the messy process and have patience. I liked some of the material, just quicker points, meant less direction and more play. Have a great season.

Excellent drill. Can the player in help-side defense (mid-line) be called for 3 secs violation? How does the ref determine 3 secs call? Doesn't the player need to actively guarding someone to prevent the 3 sec call?

No. The defensive player can stay in the middle as long as they want. Only the offensive players can get called for three second violation.

@@cliffsauer9111 The 3 second rule does apply to the defense. According to wiki - A defensive three-second violation, also known as illegal defense, is a basketball rules infraction in the National Basketball Association (NBA).[1] It is assessed when a member of the defending team spends more than three seconds in the free throw lane (also called the key, the 16-foot lane, or "the paint") while not actively guarding an opponent. To be considered actively guarding an opponent, a defender must be within arm's length of an opponent and must be in a guarding position.

@@lakerfan4life308 I’ve coached high school basketball for 17 years. I’ve coached youth basketball during that time. I am a PE teacher and I coach. My wife played college basketball and played through high school. It is only an NBA rules. Its there because they want more scoring. It doesn’t apply to high school college or youth basketball in any state as far as I know. Otherwise a 2-3 zone would be illegal defense.

@@cliffsauer9111 Hey Cliff - okay. Good to know. There is a 3 sec violation in the key but it doesn't relate to youth basketball. Perhaps - It's at the discretion of the league to enforce it.
