Honestly, with how saturated the Gacha market is now. Its good to see Hypergryph make a dedicated completed experience rather than another live service gacha. This opens up the gates so they (and other companies) can create more fully fledged story games

A turn based game with a parry system!? I don't mind it being a premium product. Just hope this releases to global market at the same time

it's interesting. I think HG is experimenting on the demographic of regular game monetizasion method. I hope when Ak Reach it's EoS, they make the game permanent as offline regular game on steam/other service.

And instead of gacha to get the characters, you instead need to unlock them from quests of some sort or completing stages like event ops. But what about the grind for materials?

Here are my thoughts on the things I noticed from the gameplay: 1. Two different attack styles? - Top right vinyl record looking button @1:42, pay attention to the center icon which alternates between a plain circle and a gear-like icon. I believe these are 2 different styles you can attack enemies with, as you can clearly see the skills on both characters (above their icons) change as you alternate between styles. This feature probably allows players for some customization with their skill/ability loadouts. 2. Action points - From what I can tell after the ultimate skill being used @8:56 there are 2 temporary status effects on the enemies. The 1st effect I believe just indicates them in "airborne/knocked-up" status, then the 2nd effect is this blue teardrop-like icon. - When this blue-teardrop icon is affected on enemies, the "first hit of any skill or follow up attack" you will gain 1 AP (action point). You might need to go at 0.25 speed @9:04 to clearly see it's not just from first skill hit but also follow up attacks. Also notice a similar blue-teardrop icon pops up on the left side under the combo/total damage counter, you gain 1 AP every first skill/follow up attack. 3. Shield/Armor break = Extra turn - Sadly I don't think there's a "perfect" parry mechanic but what happen @12:14 was the shield/armor bar was 1 hit away from breaking, you can see a bit left near the left side of the bar. Every time you do break the shield/armor you are in this "zone" (indicated by the area being darken) it looks like you can do an extra turn to deal as much damage as you can within the time limit (top right white bar).

The teardrop looking icon seem to show a "down" status. And rather than gaining an action point for attacking a downed enemy, it looks more like the attack/skill caused the down status while giving an action point. Likely downing an enemy gives the player an action point and attacking a downed enemy refreshes the "downed" duration while giving yet another point. That said it seems only certain attacks allow this, when black knock-up the enemy here at 1:50, it didn't give an action point despite it being "downed" when it hit A knocked-up enemy would shift to a down status but it seems some attacks do not hit knocked-up enemies and if you time it too early like here at 1:48 and 4:41, your attack will miss and you won't get an action point. Likewise you can also time it too slow and miss the window by a margin. Despite being a turn-based game, timing seems to be very important here. There are also other ways of getting action points like here 1:44 (white got a crit?) and 6:21 (black got a point upon breaking the shield). All these is likely tied to the attack/skill used. Also the skills/attacks used must follow the set order. The first skill/attack must be used first before the second. And they don't reload until the next turn or you are in the "blue zone". So even if you do get extra action points, you are still limited by the loadout you have. I wonder if you would be able add more than 2 skills/attacks into the loadout. At 2:27, when black killed an enemy here and then both continued attacking, the UI turned red and a red upside triangle appeared on the enemy, This I think is an overkill bar. Here too 6:34 and 6:59 (bar is already full and the guy is still hammering at him)

That makes a lot more sense that teardrop being the down status after looking back at it again. Nice catch on the other ways to gain action points, assuming we will be able to customize our skills/abilities then that would highly encourage players to experiment different combinations or playstyles. Also I really hope that is an overkill bar, as those are always so satisfying (at least for me) to try to max out even if they don't reward you with anything.

Looks great and i like how the combat system works and i know it's not a complete game yet but imi the walking animation needs a little bit of work and the sound of the environment. Qlso if we could zoom out a bit i feel like the camera is too close to the character when exploring

Been waiting for this game since it's first trailer back 2 years ago, the "action-turn based" combat reminds me of the Nintendo DS game called Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story. Where if you time specific skills/attacks you can deal bonus damage or dodge/block the enemies attacks. Never manage to find another game with similar combat style until Ex Astris so looking forward to playing it once it's out

Huh guess I never realized for the other RPG Mario games, I didn't own the consoles to play those other Mario RPG games so never bothered to look into them until now haha. I'll check out the other 3 you mentioned and see if I'll enjoy them, thanks for the recommendations

@@LazyKennot No problem, Sea of Stars is the most like the Mario RPG games out of them. Lost Odyssey is an Xbox 360 game and I'm unsure if it's on Gamepass or the Xbox store and backwards compatible with the Xbox One or Series S/X.

Doesnt look that great. Years are passing since first announcement and nobody is impressed anymore. Especially character models arent that good.

eh looks kinda generic to me compared to the actual non-gacha titles, doubt it gonna be popular outside gacha sphere

Hope this gets a pc release, I like how the combact doesn't shift into an instanced zone, I hope they also release dlcs like expansions, and than those expansions have patches where they add content like WOW does
