What items do you own that add the most value?

If your snoring is bad enough that it bothers people, PLEASE get a sleep study done. You may have sleep apnea

i dont have a bed frame anymore bc my cats EVERY NIGHT would go under the bed and scratch the mattress and it would wake me up. getting rid of the bed frame added value to my life and improved my sleep! i gave it to a friend who gets value from it now! ☺️

I'm trying to be more minimalist - have loved your podcasts etc. I do find as an observation though that the very specific naming of products/brands is unsettling (to me). I understand that you are not affiliated, etc, but for me it feels like it is going against the grain of moving away from over-consumerism/replacement culture. If a table is a thing that adds value why spend time explaining the detail of the colour/brand/cost etc. It just reminds me a little bit of influencer ads - which I repeat, I know you're not doing. This is a minor point in the scheme of things though - keep up the good work!

Wow, now shilling specific Brand-named high-priced products. All respect gone. And yes a white-machine noise, AND ear-plugs. Makes sense.

Not everything from Ikea is poor quality. I have an Ikea dining room table that I bought for $100 at least 25 years ago.

I inherited a set of well-worn cast iron pans from the 1920s. Absolutely magical.

You spend 1/3 of your life sleeping, and it greatly affects your awake life, so the importance of its quality can't be minimized.

My IKEA dining room table is 15 years old. It’s very simple, and I love it! It’s held up very well, and we plan to keep it forever.

My husband and I are moving across country. With the prices of moving trucks and gas, we have decided to sell or donate EVERY piece of furniture and move with what we can fit it our small car. Thats it. What fits in the car goes. Let me tell you…. We feel LIBERATED. The stress of moving has gone away and actually we are super excited to drive for 3-4 days to our new beginning.

Regarding the hair dryer- a note about the difference between the guy with the Elchim and the guy who sometimes uses a hairdryer to quickly dry his hair in a pinch, is that a hairdryer is the worst marketed tool in the history of tools. Most people think it’s made to dry hair, but it’s made to add volume and reduce frizz, add or remove bend, add shine, and ultimately set a style in place (like a hat will set a dent in your hair that the hair stubbornly holds until it’s wet again- the hairdryer used properly causes your hair to stubbornly hold the style the same way it can stubbornly hold a hat dent). To the person styling their hair with a hairdryer it adds a lot of value to your life by way of making you feel like a million bucks every day, but if you sometimes use it to dry your hair quickly it adds little value. Elchim is a wonderful dryer, and such a purchase over a cheaper consumer dryer is actually a much cheaper cost in the long run. A pro dryer is built to style ten heads a day for ten years, a consumer dryer is built to dry one head a day for two years. If you don’t drop the Elchim you’ll have it for the rest of your life. Just my two cents 🤓

I like that your point in minimalism is having nice things that add value to your life and are things you really use rather than being stuck on shelf or closet or addict for years unused. Also the idea that you own the items, they don't own you

Joshua thank you so much for the two rules you gave in the early section of the video: the no junk rule and the 90/90 rule. I really need them cos I have hugely reduced what we own. Now we live in a smaller house and I have continued decluttering but "useful stuff" is building up and I need a further impetus. Those rules are clarifying my thoughts! Thank you again. G Ire

Isn’t it funny that as a non minimalist (but also not a clutter bug ) there are only a couple of things on this list that I would find essential, that being a couch, bed and kettle! I think the further you travel down the minimalist journey you seek things that aim to improve your well being, hence all the sleep aids.
