My grandparents came from Luarca.

As a 6 ye wast old child, I spent a year on the farm in Luarca in Asturias. As an American, I have many fond memories growing up in that region and to the state, have family and friends there. Having revisited in 2012, it’s a beautiful region with beautiful people and amazing architecture.

Thanks for the video. I hardly ever see Asturias talked about. The north of Spain is so lush and interesting and much different from the rest of Iberia. It’s like a well-kept secret. Shh!

My father was born in Asturias in the early 30’s. He always spoke so fondly about it. I believe from the area known as Tineo, or El Pedregal. He passed a long time ago, more than 30 years ago, only have a few documents and memories of what he said. I haven’t had the opportunity to go and visit yet but it is on my bucket list. Love the history, and the music. Very proud of my Iberian Celtic heritage. As a native NY’er, I find it awesome that my Dad came from such a significant place. 🇪🇸

Galicia is close to Asturias in culture but it's not the same...

Most of those cartoon people look nothing like the men in Asturias.

Beautiful, creative, smart, and very talented People! Very descriptive and informative documentary. Loved the way they were globally cultured, and Faith aware, yet they kept their Christian faith alive and many of their culture heritages, and language. The industralization and neutralization periods they adjusted to and did remarkably well, I've heard with very prolific outcomes , and in many different educational and business successful areas. The hope and renewal efforts to restore and place things in order, after difficult times serve them to have a title of well disciplined and hardworking group of people! Thank you for sharing!

Well, thanks for you admiration. I encourage you to visit us and enjoy all the amenities this land has to offer, I do not know for how long. There are just a couple of punctualizations I can refrain from commenting. First that the Asturian language has been a dead language for centuries. It was already dead when in the 18th century Gaspar Melchor de Jovellanos, father of the Spanish enlightenment, roamed over the most remote corners of the intricate Asturian geography in a horse carriage, collecting words already then in disuse. What some speak today is a made up language full or archaisms with grammar invented in the 1980's and all fueled by left-wing politicians and their proverbial voracity for public money. Second, that there are no efforts being made to restore nor to place anything in order here. All the industries have been dismantled and no alternatives have been provided. What once was an economic engine is now a subsidized and aged region. Successive socialist governments have closed absolutely everything to the point that we have a modality of tourism called industrial archeology. They have killed our economy and proudly exhibit the embalmed corpse. All the young people had to migrante for there are no jobs to be found here. I can safely predict that by the 22th century only bears will stand on two legs on this exuberant strip of land. So enjoy it whilst you still can.

@@UntoldHistoryYT Let me suggest also that if this is an educational channel you should explain to people what means the concept "Celtic" for people seem to be very confused. If we Asturians are Celtic then all European peoples are Celtic, and if not all European peoples are Celtic then we aren't Celtic neither. Hep them differentiate between a branch of the Indo-European language family of the metal ages and a cultural and political invention of the late 20th century. It would be interesting and responsible to do so.

How could they transport his body several centuries later to Asturias? This is just legend like all of the Constantine era stories spread by the Catholic church. Furthermore, there was a documentary that claims to have found James' tomb and ossuary in present day Jerusalem.

El camino de Santiago,primitivo es el que parte de Oviedo, que es el que emprendió el rey de Asturias Alfonso II poco tiempo después del "descubrimiento" de la tumba del apóstol en Santiago, dentro del reino de Asturias. Otra cosa es el camino francés.

Asturias was founded as a sanctuary for Visigothic Christian nobles. The people are mainly celt-iberian and go back as far as Neantherdal days. Asturias is one of eight Celtic territories including Galicia.

We are not Celtic, the kelts did visit the Astur tribes friendly and surprisingly they survived, unlike all others. They left some cultural imprint that's all. Only Rome really conquered, and it took seven legions leaded personally by a Caesar. We are Romans.

Asturias was not "Spain last bastion". It was the last bastion of Christianism as state religion. Al-Andalus was Spain too. A nation is not defined by its religion.

Actually, a unified nation is defined by one language, common culture and religion. BTW, Spain is not a nation, Spain is country. But a colonial country as it changed the name of its oppression region (Castela) language to fake a common language, to fake being a nation. Galicia, Catalonia are nations, forced into regions by the “central” government. Spain recognized Palestine (which is the result of arab colonization of the region) but does not recognize Catalonia which had a referendum to be independent - why? Because Spain is not a nation, it’s a colonial state (country). Nation is a very well defined political science term, and Spain does not fit it.

Nations are frequently defined by their religion. The only reason Canada exists is the Catholic religion and its conflict with protestantism.
