Most of these are motorway/freeway interchanges. Two intersections in city downtowns that involved multiple streets coming together were Confusion Corner in Stuart, FL and The Octopus in Ithaca, NY, both of which I had the pleasure of negotiating. Thankfully, both were redesigned to make them rather less daunting, mainly by splitting each one into two.

In France on roundabouts the feeder road traffic has NOT the right of way. There are exemptions like the huge one you mentioned but the roundabout sign clearly has "the traffic inside the roundabout has priority". The Arc the triomphe one does not have roundabout signage. So its right before left - hence the feeder traffic has the right of way

#3: Amarillo, Texas also has a turbine-style interchange---the junction of I-40 and I-27. However, the one in Amarillo is built on a much smaller footprint. This leads to the curves being much tighter, and it can be quite nerve-wracking to drive. There have been calls to replace it with a conventional stack interchange.

The thing is, the USA has largely abandoned full cloverleafs. The nature of the issue is that the on-ramp leaf dumps accelerating traffic right at the same point where exiting traffic is slowing down to get into the off-ramp leaf. Accidents increase as a result. I only knew of one full four-leaf clover, which used to be located in WPB, FL, but it has since been redesigned to no longer work like that. Now it has traffic lights like most of them. I'm more interested in the "Double Diamond" setup, which is an interesting variant. I've seen it in a couple places.

Maybe they just put the downtown shots because many people identify Dallas when they see the globe shaped Reunion Tower.

We had an interchange here in Toronto between the Don Valley Parkway (which parallels the Don River, so occasionally will partially flood) and the Gardiner Expressway (one of those 1950s-era elevated freeways that crosses between downtown Toronto and Lake Ontario to its south). First, the expressway basically cuts off the parts of land south of it from having decent pedestrian access: a Lakeshore Boulevard runs beneath it with poorly designed entrances and exits making it and the parkway above it gridlocked. That is worse when there is a game with fans heading in (I got stuck in a jam of fans when I was trying to get elsewhere with my van overheating…complete nightmare as people were “protecting” their inches-forward momentum). At this interchange, cars suddenly realize that they either have to exit left to get to the Boulevard, right to get to the Expressway, with a 3rd option that I’m blanking on. At least now the river has been cleaned up and some industrial plants that used to be there decades ago have closed. Back in the day, you drove past polluted river smell combined with olfactory attack from both a rendering plant and a soybean plant. You’d literally hold your breath and plug your nose! Toronto may be a cool city in other ways but we have just the worst urban transportation structure.

I drive the Charles de Gaulle Etoile (Arc de Triomphe) daily and it is not that difficult. It respects the rule that governs all road traffic in France, which is that you yield to traffic on your right, which explains why traffic IN the circle must yield to traffic entering the circle. This is not difficult in practice, the major difficulty being EXITING the roundabout, which must be planned ahead of time. But int the worst of cases, you simply go around one more time. Despite popular mythology, there are very rarely any accidents in this interchange, and NO, there is definitely no "rule" by insurance companies forbidding its use. I have driven it daily for over 20 years, and have "maybe" seen one or two minor fender-benders there.

Roundabouts with priority to vehicles entering are a local exception that only exist in Paris and its suburbs. Also the Arc de Triomphe is absolutely not in the center of Paris. And insurance companies don't charge extra for going around it. This is ridiculous.

@@hermera4544 The benefit is to avoid an entry being locked because of a continuous flow with no gaps because no vehicle is exiting at that location. Prioritizing the entry flow encourages the traffic in the ring to migrate to inner lanes, giving room on the outer lane for entering vehicles. There are of course other issues but in a very dense traffic area like Paris it is an acceptable compromise.

The intersection at 8:33 is not the high five. It is the intersection of I30 and I35 just west of downtown Dallas (Reunion Ball gives it away). The High Five is North and slightly East of downtown near Richardson just north of Medical City Hospital.

I can name one interchange that people in Virginia call the Springfield Mixing Bowl. It is the interchange between I-95 and the Capital Beltway around Washington, DC. It was built in the 60s I think. But after decades, they finally added flyover bridges and new interchanges to try and improve traffic. But it was too little too late. It's even worse now. This should have been improved or blown up years ago. I hated trying to get on the Beltway for years. People trying to get to the onramp to the out or inner loops of the Beltway, from the far left lane was crazy. Accidents happen all the time. I remember one morning being told of a major traffic accident where a tractor trailer truck overturned on the onramp to the beltway, it had black powder on board. It happened about 4am and shut traffic northbound and southbound for hours. I left home at 8am and got to work at 1030am. Traffic was backed up for miles south of the Beltway, almost to Fredericksburg, Va.

Sometimes it's also just called the "Springfield Interchange," my family has driven through this interchange whenever we need to get to NY to visit relatives. Not sure how many times though. This connects the Capital Beltway (I-495) with I-95 and I-395 via a network of bridges that will definitely confuse some when they arrive at this interchange for the first time. Traffic there can be and has been a nightmare sometimes due to the fact that it's in the Washington DC metro area.

@@ericchen3129 I was born in Northern Virginia. And it is still easy to get lost even growing up there. We call it the "Springfield Mixing Bowl" because like i said you have onramps and offramps everywhere trying to get past the Beltway onto I-395 and towards Washington DC itself. Or to get onto I-495 and the Capital Beltway, east bound or westbound. And very soon I will be moving back to Virginia, from Florida. But thank God not back to that disaster.

There is the same situation in New Derby near Liverpool, UK, but it has at least 6 entry points. And by the way the UK drives on the left for historical reasons Europe although not all of it drives on the right but ONLY after Napoleon got to power in France and he conquered most of Europe, UK exempted.

It’d be nice if you actually showed footage of the High Five while talking about it. It is nowhere near downtown Dallas, or Arlington, which is most of the Dallas intersections shown. They finished it way ahead of schedule, but it still sucks. Still bottlenecks at every part of it.

As a born-and-raised Miamian, I'm somewhat astonished that you didn't include the Golden Glades Interchange. What started as a cloverleaf split by railroad tracks grew into one of the most complex, compact, multi-roadway interchanges in all of North America, and yet despite being stuck in limited space with remnants of a design from the late 1950's, FDOT has managed to keep it fairly efficient since a massive overhaul project shifted one of the freeways (I-95) and a 90-foot-tall flyover was added in 1995. A few ramps have been added, shifted, and widened in the time since, as well. Prior to that 1995 project, it was a an absolute crawl through there, but that significantly improved things. Still looks insane from any angle, though, and Lord help you if you miss your ramp, because you'll go in the ENTIRELY wrong direction, and it's not always easy to get back to where you wanted to be from the opposite side.

Maybe it would have been #16, but consider Dupont Circle in Washington, DC. It is the intersection of Massachusetts Avenue, Connecticut Avenue, New Hampshire Avenue, 19th Street, and P Street, all of which are among the largest and busiest in that city. There is a circle within a circle for Massachusetts Avenue traffic, and Connecticut Avenue both passes under the circle in what was an old trolley underpass and intersects with the circle (i.e., roundabout). Plus, the circle itself is a heavily trafficked park. Moreover, there are traffic lights at every intersection on the circle for pedestrian traffic. When I lived there, it could easily take an half hour to circumvent part of Dupont Circle during rush hour.
