Wow so glad to have stumbled upon your channel Michael!!! I can see that I missed out on a lot of great music back in the sixties when I was just getting into what was then considered psychedelic rock. For sure I'll be checkin you out for new leads on vintage rock back in the day!!

Good choices! I wish you had included S.F.Sorrow by The Pretty Things. It is a masterpiece!

Yes, SF Sorrow is a masterpiece for sure, I would have included it, but my original list was too long, so I needed to leave some out. Thanks for your comment, I'm sure I'll probably be showing SF Sorrow in a future video.

In 68 I turned 18 in the middle of complete chaos. I was up for the draft but they cut it off before they got to my #. I was a Cream kind of guy but I loved soul music too like the OJs and Temptations. I bet I saw 5000 bands in the 60s/70s. Rev. MLK, Jr., RFK, and civil rights leader Medgar Everts were assassinated that year. The Vietnam war was raging with huge protests. Every major city was practically burned to the ground over civil rights protests. It was a strange time to turn 18. I went to protest at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago and Mayor Daily sent his Nazi thug cops who beat the crap out of us on live TV. You can hear us chanting, "The whole world is watching," on the 1st Chicago Transit Authority album. I got radicalized that year and I'm still a vet, radical, hippie lifetime guitar player today at age 73.

Pretty incredible that you experienced a lot of the turmoil that was happening in 1968. For me, I was a 12 year old kid, who loved the Beatles and the Monkees, but was about to discover a whole world of heavy music. For my 13th birthday that year, I received the Beatles White album, and Rolling Stones Beggar's Banquet. Those 2 albums opened my eyes to a more mature style of music. From there I discovered FM radio, where I first heard Led Zep, Black Sabbath, the Velvet Underground, the Stooges, and so much more. So while you were experiencing life as a young man in turbulent times, I was starting a life long journey of discovering great music. By the time I was 18, I had to register for the draft, but fortunately for me, the draft was ended in 1974. Thank you for your interesting comment, and for subscribing to my channel.

@@nearwildheaven4840 To this day, "Beggar's Banquet," and the White album are still my favs. I do some songs from Beggar's when I perform.

love that move record, “fire brigade” blows me away every time. that band had such great energy. big fan of the later shazam too

The Move are one of my favorite bands of the 60s, I agree that they had great energy, listening to some of their live recordings, it's pretty evident. Shazam is an excellent album. Thanks for taking the time to comment, I always appreciate it.

Hi Michael, I’ve never seen that Small Faces foldout insert, Very cool, I have the reissue. The first two Traffic Albums are hard to find. I love That Who front cover for Magic bus. That’s one I don’t have. I saw Spirit in a small club in St Augustine in the 90s with Randy and Cass. They were doing small shows then. still looking for that Monkees album. The St John Green album is one of the funniest albums I’ve ever heard, and it’s getting expensive on Discogs. Have a great weekend.

Cool you saw Spirit, I didn't care for their later albums, but I'll bet they were still cookin' live. Traffic's first album was released in the US with the title Heaven is in Your Mind, then it was reissued with the title Dear Mr. Fantasy, either way, a great album. I found the Head album at a Half Price Books for $10 a few years ago. I got my copy of St. John Green in trade at my local store, it's really not that great of an album, but yeah, it is pretty hilarious. Thanks for tuning in Dave

Michael, I’m not sure if I even have 15 albums from 68. I’m sure I must. Always enjoy seeing the obscure album. Can’t do folk psych, it is just to slow for me and hard to dance to lol. I have n3ver seen that Buffalo Springfield album before. So much cool stuff Michael

'68 What a great year for albums.. And singles ! What a nice Ogden's Nut Gone, I only have the Cd 🤔That Traffic LP was one of my first albums that I fell in love with.. And the band ! I hope I run into a copy of Pearls Before Swine someday soon, and most Spirit LP's are amazing, and as you say.. The first 4 !! I like Last Time Around with the edition of Jimmy Messina ( I had dinner with him back in '77 ). Boogie With Canned Heat is.. Killer ! Maybe I can find Head in Japan, that would be cool, and hopefully, not to pricy.

The Ogden's LP I found in an import bin at a record store around 45 years ago, and I only paid about $12 for it, ( that was the going rate for import LPs back then). I like just about every album by Traffic, from their psychedelic era to their jazz influenced later albums, Low Spark is a high point! Pearls Before Swine's first 3 albums are my favorites from them. Cool you had dinner with Jim Messina, I'll bet the dinner conversation was pretty interesting! Canned Heat really cooks on Boogie, Harvey Mandel was a member for a short time, and he can be heard on their Future Blues LP. That would be cool to find a Japanese pressing of Head, although, I think the cover is different on that pressing. Thanks for your comments Jt, and take care.

@nearwildheaven4840 Jim was upset with Kenny . It was their final tour in '77. Kenny said he hurt his hand and couldn't play his guitar, which put him out front singing.. Like the front man and leader of the band ! He vented all of that stuff as I was in awe and such a big fan of Jimmy's since way back ! We sat for about an hour or so..

I was thinking you were one of the lemon drops yes great band I have the earlier vinyl press and the second one and that cd and buzsaw the power trio of lemon drops I was 1 in 68 67 baby I listin to tge music of my birth

Hey Michael Awesome selections as always Spirit’s first few albums are great cheap heat usually easy to find 🔥I have a bunch of Zappa but don’t have Ruben & the Jets. Love the St. John’s Green cover but I don’t like the music enough to pay the price I’ve seen on the copies I’ve found in the wild 😝 Never heard of Max Frost and the Troopers Take care ✌️🤘🏻☮️

I know what you mean about the St. John Green LP, I got my copy in trade, so I didn't shell out a ridiculous price for it, and it's more of a period piece than a noteworthy album. If you like 50s style Doo Wop, you would like Ruben and the Jets. Check out the movie Wild in the Streets, and you'll see where Max Frost and the Troopers came from. That was a cool stack of records. $6 a night for Motel 6?! lol I think Mary Tyler Moore used that "Love Is All Around" song for her tv show. "This is a fairly decent album....not too bad...." - I'm not sure you really sold me on that Max Frost album. lol At least, not at first. Best album cover was The Move. Rock on Michael!

Most of the Max Frost LP is good, it's just the title song sounds like something's missing in the mix. Yes, the Move cover is quite psychy, and was designed by the Fool, the art collective that worked for the Beatles' Apple Boutique. Thanks for tuning in Randy.

Hi Michael, great selection there. That monkees album is a solid listen all the way through for sure. Another Troggs album ( if you haven’t heard yet) called The Trogg Tapes is good also, worth getting. Thnx for the videos😀

I have heard the Troggs Tapes LP, I just haven't got around to picking up a copy. Head is the Monkees most psychedelic album IMO. Thanks for commenting, I always appreciate it.

68 had lots of great albums. The Spirit album and Shape Of Things To Come are the ones I want to pick up. I didn’t know the song was different from the soundtrack.

I thought the St. John Green was the best one he showed. It is so good, I think he should show it in 4 or 5 videos in a row. I wonder if anyone has done anything like that before?

Have you heard of the Baroque’s Purple Day album, on the Chess Label from 1967/68. Also the great English band Family first album, Music in a Dolls House, from 1968, they always get ignored in the USA, saw them many times, all their albums are worth listening too! The Troggs song Love is all Around was at No1 in the UK for 15 weeks in 1994 by Wet, Wet, Wet.

Actually, I have the Baroques and the Family LPs you mentioned, both excellent albums, I'm currently looking for Family's Entertainment album. I like the Troggs version of Love is All Around more than Wet Wet Wet. Thanks for your comments.

Also Hermans Hermits on tour , which isnt on tour , the 60's were different , thank Gods
