July 7, 2024 - Fourteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time.
Readings: Ezekiel 2: 2-5; Psalm 123: 1-2, 2, 3-4;
2 Corinthians 12: 7-10; Mark 6: 1-6
The reading for the #14th_Sunday_in_ordinary_time_year B, reminds us of the complexities of human nature, the challenges we face in proclaiming the Word of God, and the profound grace bestowed upon us through our weaknesses.
The prophet Ezekiel, in the first reading, is sent to a rebellious people. God warns Ezekiel that the people may not listen to him, but he is to speak God's words regardless of their response. This passage highlights the often challenging and thankless task of a prophet. It reminds us that fidelity to God's message is more important than the reception it receives.
Psalm 123 is a cry for mercy and a plea for God's help. The psalmist looks to God with a humble and trusting heart, waiting for relief from contempt and scorn. This psalm complements the reading from Ezekiel, reflecting the posture we should take in times of opposition and difficulty - looking up to God with hope and trust.
