The soil is a sandy clay that sometimes ponds, however you can plow right through standing water on this ground. Good ground to shine up a rusty plow, however, if you already have a land polish on your plow, the sandy soil will dull the moldboard somewhat. It does plow easy, I was pulling the 4-14 fully mounted model 60 plow in third gear at least seven inches deep in third gear with a 41 PTO HP Allis WD45 tractor.

@@copperhead6132 Probably not an issue in the US where fuel was cheap and plentiful but in wartime Britain with shortages and fuel rationing it could be a real problem with most tractors run on TVO instead of straight petrol and why the Marshal tractor was so popular with threshing contractors as it would run all day on 5 or 6 gallons of Diesel.

Good day Nice video. Boy they seemed to be moving right along, Yea soil did not look to heavy, except 1 place. A while ago I think you told me allis ploughs pull easier, possibly than some other plows. It could be, but why. I know in Ont. plough shares for Allis are expensive. Thanks for video

I see that a lot of the older plows (e.g. 8:35) seem to have a large hub on their outside idler wheel, and in many of these videos I've watched, the Left-side wheel on the plow carries a treaded tire. I can't think of ANY reasons for these implements to carry a Bull Wheel, but I also can't see why the Left idler should have a hub any more complex than the Right idler. Can anybody tell me the reason for the larger hub on the Left?
@The1952caallis

The left side is bigger because the lift clutch which lifts the plow out of the ground is on that side.

Why are you just skimming the top of the ground? Why don't you set the plows down about at least 8 inches deep and do a job?
